From the album of WWI soldier William West (1268) of the 29 Infantry Battalion, 5th Pioneers Battalion. This collection of postcards, photographs and clippings were sent between William and his family and loved ones during the years he was on active service. See also 207 and 220. A souvenir of a ship that brought returned servicemen, including JB McLean, home from World War 1 in 1920. The Ceramic departed Tillbury, UK 12th March and docked in Freemantle on 27th April 1920 and then went onto Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The Ceramic was a transport vessel built in Belfast in 1913 for the White Star Line to transport frozen produce and apples from Australia to UK. It was taken over by the Australian Government for troop transport in October 1914 and could carry over 3,000 troops. This trip in 1920 there were 1467 on board, there were women and children as well as 439 soldiers returning home, one of whom was John 'Basil' McLean. Was with other World War 1 memorabilia that has come from Private John Basil McLean, 2nd Reinforcements, 37th Battalion, A.I.F. There was a large collection of postcards so he may have been collecting them as souvenirs. J.B. McLean (Service No. 13824) was from near Maffra, Victoria and enlisted on 22 January 1916. He embarked on 16 December 1916 for Europe. His full war record is available from AWM. He spent time with the Australian Field Artillery (Pack Section). At the end of the war he worked for a year at the A.I.F. Headquarters in London before returning to Australia on the 'Ceramic', arriving Portsea in 1920.Postcards were a very common form of communication in the first World War. This postcard also records a trip home for a returned soldier. This type of experience would have been familiar to the first Legatees as they had served in World War 1.Postcard of the ship Ceramic of the White Star Line.Printed on the back. The Sanyo ‘Sensor Touch’ television was assembled in Wodonga. Sanyo was one of the international companies that set up business in Wodonga in the 1970s as part of the decentralisation of industry. It continued operation into the 1980s. The Sanyo Australia Pty. Ltd. factory in Wodonga opened in 1974 with 35 staff and production peaked in 1976-1977 when it employed 360 people. In the first ten years 350,000 televisions were assembled from Japanese parts, however by 1984 the number of staff had reduced to 112 and the factory closed in 1987. All Sanyo televisions were then imported from Japan.The Sanyo ‘Sensor Touch’ television has local, state and national significance as it is thought to have been assembled in Sanyo Australia's factory in Wodonga. Photo of the scene looking southwest from the Post Office area, with an ESCo tram hauling a trailer and another tram on the opposite side of the roadway. Has the Town Hall, National Mutual Building, C Marks, and Snows in the view. Wal has dated the photo about 1913 on the rear of the postcard and about 1912 in his album notes - considered c1905 as the destinations are hanging from the front of the tram. They were soon after moved to the roof of the tram in a destination box. in the card sent to Ken Magor by Wal Jack, he notes the the Historical Museum has a large photo of this and you can see No. 12 outlined very clearly.
