Photos of the Melbourne Junior Legacy Annual Demonstration at the Melbourne Town Hall in September 1963. They include a scene of a canoe with junior legatees dressed as Native Americans. There are ballerinas dancing, and children marching and making formations. Also gymnastics demonstrations. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and eurythmics, the Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the late 1970's, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. This book was owned by the late Dr Elizabeth Kerr and was donated to the Museum by the executor of her estate, Margaret Cameron. It was produced by Patons and Baldwins and contains knitting patterns for young boys. A sports carnival was held annually in Orbost from the late 19th century onward. Usually the carnivals raised money for worthy local causes.Closer to the date, a program of events was published, including the prizes on offer and entries invited for the footrace and woodchop events, as nomination and acceptance fees applied. Entries for other events were taken on the day. The Sports Day would end with a concert in the evening. (info. Junior Legatee performers in the Annual Demonstration, which was a major event for Legacy each year, usually held at the Melbourne Town Hall. This photo provides just one example of the beautiful costumes worn by Junior Legacy girls for Legacy's Annual Demonstrations at the Melbourne Town Hall. These costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. Whilst the cost to Legacy was very small, the quality of the work produced was truly professional. A record of a Junior Legacy Demonstration. The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. Three typed pages - a covering letter from City Hall dated 19th February 1964, to the Head teacher regarding the allocation of sports grounds for 1964, a weekly timetable for the use of each ground by a particular school, and a list of special allocations. The grounds allocated are : Queen Elizabeth Oval, Showgrounds, Kennington, Golden Square, Ewing Park, Wilkie Park, Centenary Oval, Garden Gully, Garden Gully (new Basketball courts), North Bendigo Recreation Reserve, Allingham St., Quarry Hill, White Hills, Long Gully, and Londonderry.
