Letter to the Mayor, Ballarat City Council from Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.......Ballarat City Council...The FBBG History Group found in their research at the Public Records Office of Victoria that the Trustees of Thomson's Estate arranged for the City of Ballarat to undertake the care of Thomson's grave following the transfer of 10 pounds. However, the grave needs restoration and it was found that the Council still bears responsibility for its upkeep....A one page letter to the Mayor, Councillor Verlin, Ballarat City Council from FBBG and 2 pages of black and white photographs of Thomson's grave and headstone and a coloured photograph of the Thomson tablet at the Town Hall plus a quotation for work needed on the grave....It was found that the Ballarat City Council still had responsibility for the upkeep of this grave. ...The FBBG History Group found in their research at the Public Records Office of Victoria that the Trustees of Thomson's Estate arranged for the City of Ballarat to undertake the care of Thomson's grave following the transfer of 10 pounds. He left parliament after the ALP government was defeated by the Abbott Coalition. Norm Borchers passed away in 2008. Borchers was a Club President of the Sebastopol Lions Club (1975-76). He worked for the railways as an engineering employee and was long-term trade unionist (Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Australian Railways Union) and ALP member; he lived and worked in the Ballarat area. Norm was active in workplace disputes during the ALP split in 1955. He was a long time supporter of Ballarat Trades Hall. Entry was by the narrow door at the driver's end of the tram. People would pay their fare to the driver. There was no conductor. Pink advertisement for the Bendigo Bank was on the side. The tram is photographed outside the Shed at the Ballarat Tramway Museum. Tram body was built in 1915 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. Sold to the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Ltd. in 1927 and ran in Geelong. Transferred by the State Electricity Commission to Ballarat in 1936. It was the last tram to be overhauled by the SEC. It is now the property of the Ballarat City Council and on loan to the Museum.Coloured photograph of No. 14 tram. Advertising board on side for Bendigo Bank.
