James Robert Valentine Anderson (1881-1969) was born at Chewton. He married Minnie Lyle Morrison (1878-1973) in 1907. He was a mining engineer who became a teacher at the School of Mines. In 1907 he became the curator of the School of Mines Museum and in 1910 was appointed the Principal/Director of the School of Mines (now TAFE). He held this position until about 1945.Program for the official opening of the refurbished School of Mines Building renamed the JRV Anderson Building for the Bendigo College of TAFE in November 1986. National Trust Collection: Mechanics Institute - School of Mines - Technical College (the McCrae Street section of the Institute) A variety of correspondence from December 1977 to March 1983, between The National Trust and the Principal of the Bendigo Technical College, regarding the facade of the building, the Assay Laboratory, the Library. Various letterheaded correspondence, generally typed letters and information three site sketch plans of the buildings on the corner of Mundy and Hargreaves Streets (circa 1980). "Early portions at the northern end in 1984. Architects Vahland and Getzschmann. Foundation stone of additions laid in May 1889 comprising three floors and a tower. Architect W.C. Vahland. In 1887 an octagonal Library building designed by Vahland had been erected and finely decorated by the famous Otto Waschatz. During the war years this beautiful building was sadly mutilated due to lack of adequate classroom space but has recently been restored and some of its pristine dignity recaptured. The institute has been in operation in various guises since 1854. The institute was known as the Loddon Campaspe Institute of TAFE from 1987 to 1990, Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE (BRIT) from 1990 to 2009, before becoming Bendigo TAFE in 2009. The Bendigo Institute of Technology was an educational facility that existed between 1967 to 1976. It had evolved from the School of Mines and Industries. Later it merged with the State College of Victoria to form the Bendigo College of Advanced Education. Today it is known as Latrobe University, Bendigo. The site is now the Bendigo TAFE campus.
