Expresser, c. 1947
Breast expressers or breast pumps are used by lactating mothers to remove breast milk. The milk can be stored for later use, perhaps allowing carers to take over feeding the baby if the mother is not available. The milk may also be removed if the mother has excess milk that causes discomfort and can lead to painful Mastitis. This particular breast pump works by suction. The excess milk is gathered in the glass chamber during the process. More modern breast pumps operate using electricity. This personal milk expresser or breast pump/reliever is complete with its box. It represents equipment used by lactating mothers over decades.Expresser and box. Clear glass horn shaped milk expresser with red rubber bulb (commonly called a breast pump or breast reliever). This metal tin once contained sewing silk thread used in the making of the ship model, Sovereign of the Seas. Natural silk thread has elasticity and can also be teased out for making fine line for rigging on ship models. ”. It is part of a collection of objects used by Jim Williams, maker of fine ship models from about 1930-1955. Functional object - CARRON brand Tailor's "Goose" Iron With Twist Handle, Carron Iron Company, c1850s - 1900
THE CARRON COMPANY The Carron Company established its ironworks on the banks of the River Carron in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland, in 1759, and became an incorporated company in 1773. The company was the largest ironworks in Europe during the 19th century. It supplied ammunition and armaments, steamboat engines, pig iron, cast iron goods such as flat irons, balustrades, fire grates and bath tubs, pillar boxes and telephone boxes, and even cast iron rings for underground tunnels. In 1982 it became insolvent and was taken over by the Franke Corporation, using the brand Carron Phoenix. This iron is representative of the domestic appliances used throughout Australia up until electricity became widely available for domestic use.An antique Carron iron made of solid cast iron. These types of iron were nicknamed "sad irons" from the Old English where "sad" was originally a word which meant "heavy and solid". Typically, there would be two irons simultaneously in use: one to iron with and one being heated up on the stove or in the fire. This iron has a flat bottom and back and it curves to a point at the front. It has a goose neck handle which has a twist. Irons such as this were often given the name "goose" irons. Near the front of the iron on its top '11' is marked. These irons were used from the late 18th to mid 20th centuries before electricity was widely available in all areas, particularly in rural environments. On top of iron "CARRON"flat irons, domestic appliances -

Headwear - Hatpin, c. 1880-1920
Hat pins were essential women's accessories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, used to secure large, decorative hats to carefully styled hair. These “Queen” brand pins were marketed as rustless and climate-suitable, highlighting their appeal in Australian conditions. Manufactured in England by William Briggs & Co. Ltd., they were distributed across the British Empire, including rural Australia. This type of display card was used in haberdasheries and general stores, combining functional fashion with affordability. Hat pins were used for decoration and for fastening a woman's hat securely to her hair. They became a popular and important clothing accessory in the late Victorian era and the beginning of the 20th century.A pair of original hat pin display cards, each containing a set of “Queen” brand hat pins, still mounted in their original packaging. The cards are vertically oriented, with printed text in gold and black on a white background with grey stripes. Each card holds multiple long metal hat pins, secured through pre-punched slots. The card text reads: "The Queen Hat Pins" Superior Quality – Rustless – Specially Made for the Australian Climate Manufactured by William Briggs & Co. Ltd. – Made in England Two small, printed prices are visible on the cards: One marked 3½d (three and a half pence) The other marked 4d (four pence) The visible heads of the pins are rounded, with one set showing a light lilac colour, suggesting variation in styles or finishes. The Queen Hat Pins Superior Quality – Rustless – Specially Made for the Australian Climate Made in England Manufacturer: William Briggs & Co. Sports Uniform (Netball) - TOTTENHAM NORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL, 'Ryder' Brand T-Shirt, Early to mid 1980's
This Netball uniform from circa 1986 was worn by a girl named Rebecca when she attended the Tottenham North Primary School. Tottenham North Primary School was opened on 29 May 1953 and was built on a South Road, Braybrook site purchased in 1929. After a fire in February 1961 the pupils were sent to the Powell and Curtin Street schools in Yarraville, and to the Maidstone and Sunshine East schools. The new building was officially opened on 22 August 1962 by A. McDonell, Director of Education, and it had sixteen classrooms, an art/craft room, and an assembly hall. Sporting achievements by the pupils included the 1963 football premiership and the 1968 cricket premiership. Over the years it has been called Tottenham Primary, Tottenham Crossing Primary, and Maidstone Primary. The different names resulted because of mergers with other local primary schools as the number of primary aged children in the Braybrook and Tottenham area changed. The school on South Road is now named Dinjerra Primary School. Dinjerra supposedly means 'out west' in the dialect of the original indigenous people of the area. Dinjerra Primary School is now the only neighbourhood government primary school in Braybrook Tottenham. The above information was sourced and compiled from: 1. 'Vision and Realisation - A Centenary History of State Education in Victoria - Volume 3', Education Department of Victoria 1973. 2. The Dinjerra Principal's website article at: http://www.dinjerra.vic.edu.au/91/Message-from-the-Principal.The netball uniform serves as a historic reminder that a school named Tottenham North Primary School once existed. The uniform also provides us with information of the colours used on these types of sports uniforms, and of the design of the School Logo. Two items of Netball Uniform.
