Black and white photograph showing the store in Sussex Street, Linton which was owned and operated by members of the Ching family from 1861. The sign over the shop reads "R. Ching, Grocer and Produce Merchant". To the right in the photograph part of the Ching dwelling, attached to the store, can be seen. The photograph appears to have been taken from the rear of what was then the Grenville Shire Offices. It shows a number of houses, including houses owned by Mrs Bobby Nicol and the Ching family (in York Street, on opposite sides of Clyde Street), and a house owned at that time by the Forestry Commission (on the corner of Clyde and Adair Streets). Blue envelope addressed to ''Mr Dave and George Harris, Axedale. Letter written from Dobie, near Ararat, where Ching family had moved from Axedale. Walter Ching's parents,Walter William and Harriet Ching are buried in the Bendigo Cemetery, MON H6. Walter Ching was killed in Action in WW1- 8.10.1917, aged 21. No known grave. Black and white copy of original photograph which shows the shop in Sussex Street owned by J. H. Morgan, the shop and dwelling owned by Richard Ching (telegraph pole in front), and the shop and dwelling owned by Annie Brown (née Nicholls). A small building between Ching's and Brown's shops may be the workshop of Dan McMillan, bootmaker. What appears to be a laneway between the Morgan shop and the Ching dwelling was once occupied by the Surface Hill Hotel (demolished c.1911). Shops in Sussex Street, Linton, c.1922: Morgan's, Ching's, Brown's. The original Bank of New South Wales building (by 1922 a private residence owned by the Lewers family) can just be seen further along the street, screened by a large tree.On reverse:"J. H.
