Dawson's Dam was between Linton and Snake Valley. Water from the dam was used in 'sluicing' by the Electro Hydraulic Company - water was blasted from high pressure pumps onto hillsides some distance away, to wash out dirt containing gold. Used c.1907-1909 at Dawsons Dam mine by Engineer James Mitchell Carlyle Bennett. On slip of paper kept with box, dated 9-7-93: "This set of Gold Weights is to go to the Linton Historical Society to match a set of Gold Scales they have in their collection. The weights were from the effects of James Mitchell Carlyle Bennett, whose photos of the Dawson Dam Pump House etc are in the Society's collection. These weights were used at the Dawsons Dam main office, when the daily gold collection was weighed, Circa 1907-09". Electro hydraulic dredge Snake Valley 1909. J Mc Bennett, was an engineer back at the main base, at Dawson's dam on the Carngham Road, Between Linton and Snake Valley. These dredges were used for getting gold. The streams of water under high pressure just washed the hills and ground away. By blasting water from high-pressure hoses into the hillsides, soil containing gold was washed out for sluicing. Two gravel pumps in Dawson's Dam pumped the wash through the sluices. Understood to have been used in Linton c.1864. Information provided in 1993 by Russell McDonagh Bennett suggests these scales may also have been used at Dawsons Dam mine c.1907-1909.Beam scales used for weighing gold. Scales consist of two circular metal dishes, each supported by three wires suspended from a metal balance (beam), which in turn is linked to and supported by a vertical metal stand. A lever attached to the stand can be used to move the weighing dishes vertically and horizontally. The scales are mounted on a rectangular wooden box with a sliding drawer which is divided into three compartments.Maker's marks stamped on dishes, lever and stand. This business was owned by father and son, Henry Archibald Wilkinson and Samuel Ronald "Ron" Wilkinson. Henry (1882-1954) was born in Shepparton and died in Bendigo. He was married to Grace Hovendon in 1908. Samuel Ronald "Ron" (1914-1995), Henry's son, was married to Florence Jean McKerlie in 1937.Farm lease dated 9th December, 1933 between W.T.
