Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Metal plate made for T.W.Clark of 205 Bourke Street Melbourne. It is the Trade Mark stamp. The Spring Gully Gold Mining property consists of Gold Mining Lease No. 2986, Castlemaine, of about 21 acres situated on the Emu Reef, in Spring Gully Fryers. There are two shafts, distant about 300 feet from each other. From one of them large quantities of gold were obtained in former years by previous companies. Originally called Graham's South Moon Mine was situated on the Garden Gully Reef, Eaglehawk. Initially owned by George William Graham (1827-1896) who was born in England. George moved out of mining in 1855 when he opened a hotel and store at Milkmaids flat and later he opened a business in Emu Creek. He retired from business in 1870 but then invested in various mining enterprises. HE married twice in 1852 and 1878.Horwood Collection - South Moon. Johann Carl Pohl (1824-1/6/1906) came to Bendigo in the 1850's. He was originally a butcher in White Hills but then planted about 12 acres of vines at Emu Creek. He was a very successful winemaker, winning prizes throughout Australia and overseas for his red wines. This certificate is from the 1873 Vienna World's Fair, again for his wine. The West Bendigo Cricket Club has operated for over 100 years with their home ground being the Ken Wust Oval at Quarry Hill.
