In 1993, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) celebrated its 25th anniversary. Formerly known as the Rheumatic and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV), the organisation was founded in 1968 by Dr Leslie Koadlow (1920-2006) with the assistance and support of his secretary, Alice Petty (-1995), and one of his patients, Mollie Riches (1896-1979). The anniversary celebrations were held at the historic Como House and Garden. Built in 1847 by the Armytage family, Como House is located on the corner of Williams Rd and Lechlade Ave, South Yarra, on Wurundjery Woiwurrung country. As part of the 1992 National Arthritis Week events, there was a Joint Walk through the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. In 1989, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV), formerly the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria RAAV), released a video titled, "Fighting Arthritis". The video promotes the Foundation's Arthritis Self Help Course and its Water Exercise Program, and was available for sale or for loan by community groups. The video launch was held on the bowling green at Parliament House, Victoria, at the start of the bowling season. In October 1994, members of the Joint Action Group (JAG) from the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) gave an exercise demonstration at the Myrtleford International Festival. This photo depicts group members on stage during their performance, with their group leader, physiotherapist and AFV's Physical Activities Educator, Valerie Sayce, standing in the rear corner of the stage. In September 1989, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria held an Arthritis Self-Help Course at the Moridalloc Community Health Centre. The course was conducted by Arthritis Foundation of Victoria staff. In attendance was the Minister for Community Services, Victoria, Peter Spyker. In this photo, the Minister stands in position behind a chair, ready to try out some of the chair-based exercises. The event is briefly mentioned in an article titled, "Minister tries arthritis self help".
