No blame was attached to anyone in the findings of the inquisition. It was unknown what caused the dynamite to explode. Three page typed document. First page: 'The Regulation of Mines Bill' by Albert Richardson; Angus Mackay, Minister of Mines introduced the Bill in the Legislative Assembly on October 16th 1873 and it became law on January 1st 1874. ... mine was the richest of the once famous Devonshire group of mines situated in the Devonshire Gully, Eaglehawk. Mr. E. T. Brown arrived in Eaglehawk in 1853. In 1871 he established himself as a mining surveyor, in 1873 he was appointed as a teacher at The School of Mines, Bendigo where he taught Surveying, Mathematics and Mine Management. He died in June 1891.
