Black and White photograph showing 3 men who have been cutting hay. Photo shows a 3 horse team harnessed to a wagon. A man sits on hay on the wagon. He is loosely holding a whip. Beside him are a man and a boy who stand between sheaves of hay. All three are wearing trousers, waistcoats and shirts with sleeves rolled up. The men are wearing hats and the boy is wearing a flat cap. Where they are standing there is hay stubble. Beyond the horse team the crop is still standing 3 trees are in the background. They appear to be dead. The Annual Ithacan Picnic is one the most enduring of all social events for the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The photograph was taken at one of the picnics organized by the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The picnics have been a popular annual event on the society's calendar for many years. Over the years the picnics were held at many different venues on the outskirts of Melbourne including Mt. Evelyn and Bacchus Marsh. Of recent years Ferny Creek has been the chosen venue. The annual family picnic organized by the Ithacan Philanthropic Society is an important event in the society's calendar and allows the members to relax with family and friends in the early months of each year. The Ithacan Philanthropic Society's annual picnic has been held at various locations over the years, including Mount Evelyn, Bacchus Marsh, and in latter years at the reserve at Ferny Creek at which this photo is taken. Running races have been a highlight of the picnics. Pictured on the left are Dennis Katsamas, Anthony Drakopoulos and Greg Varigos together with the place-getters displaying their medals. The annual Ithacan Picnic has always been an important and popular social event for members and friends of the Ithacan Society. The first picnic was held in 1918. The photograph was taken at an Ithacan Club annual picnic. The picnic were held on recreation grounds located on Melbourne's rural fringe. For many years Maddingley Reserve, Bacchus Marsh was the regular location; and more recently Ferny Creek Reserve. Running races continue to be run for all age groups are a popular activity during the day. The group gathered for the photograph were enjoying themselves at an annual Ithacan Picnic during the 1930s. The picnic was most likely held at Maddingley Park, Bacchus Marsh as it was the regular site for the picnic up until 1980 following which a move was made to the Ferny Creek Reserve, now the regular venue. Notable from early picnic photos is the effort that was made to dress for the picnic; men in suits and women in smart outfits.A black and white photograph of people standing in an sports ground. The Sherbrooke Netball Association (SNA) ran competitions from the mid-1970s until 2017-18, with Emerald teams still competing in the final roster available online from August 2017. This plaque was used to record the premiers of the 17B competition from 1982 until 2003; however, it was not used continuously. There are consistent winners marked from 1982 until 1995, with only a one-year gap in 1984. However, the plaque was then not used for 7 years, before the 2003 Emerald victory was recorded. The shield was not used again after 2003 leaving six engraving slots blank. It was manufactured by defunct trophy company Trophy Town, likely through their Kilsyth location.This shield recalls a long-standing, now-defunct local netball competition, including several victories by the Emerald team.This item is a rectangular wooden trophy. Affixed to it in a rectangular grid (eight rows and three columns) are rectangular brass plates, engraved with the year and name of premiership winners. The middle space in the first four columns of plates is replaced with a brass relief of a netball falling into a netball hoop. A larger brass plate at the top of the trophy shows the name of the competition. On the reverse there is a slot allowing the plaque to be mounted on a wall, and a green sticker with yellow writing.
