Book - 92 pages plus card covers, a historical survey of the Sebastopol district. Originally written by E.D. Jenkins for the Borough of Sebastopol's centenary in 1964, reprinted with additional text by Lloyd Jenkins to recognise the 125th anniversary of the Borough covering the years 1965 to 1989. Book covers mining history, churches, the Borough Council, early days of the district and various points, eg cabmen, horse trams and electric trams, schools, the Mechanics Institute, various clubs, fire brigade, hotels, industries, and programme of events to celebrate the centenary. The second part of the book, covering the period is laid out in a chronological order with forward by Cr. Donald, the Mayor with many photographs. Centre page has a large map of the district showing the many mines, leads, roads and other historic locations. Tramway photos are horse tram No. 7, ESCo 17 at depot (all on file) and a photo showing a horse tram heading north along Albert St. with the shopping centre in the background - see image. A Hotchkiss Light Machine Gun provided automatic fire support to the Troop. In action a crew of two men manned the gun while the third man took the horses to cover. The 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) was raised in 1920 as part of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, Citizen Military Forces, with Headquarters at Seymour and depots along the Goulburn Valley from Mansfield to Tocumwal in southern NSW. In December 1941, 20th Light Horse (Victorian Mounted Rifles) converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 20th Motor Regiment. In 1943 the Regiment was deployed to Merauke, Dutch New Guinea. Upon its return in April 1945, the Regiment was redesignated 20th Pioneer Battalion. The Long Gully Fire Brigade was ready for action in October 1873. The operated from a depot near the Wesleyan school room and members had been supplied with uniforms. On the 3rd of October the brigade, led by Captain Phillpot, marched into the city to take possession of a fire engine supplied by Council.Copy of a newspaper article titled A gift for fire station. The photo shows Joyce Green with the photographic portrait of her father's Brigade. There is a picture of Capt. J. Waterson with a plaque under it with Presented to Capt J. Waterson by the officers and members of the Long Gully Fire Briagde. Next part unreadable. Date at the end Nov. 1915 or 18. Other brigade members surround Capt Waterson and the plaque.
