Newsletter - St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Murrumbeena
There are two copies of Tara Light, St Patrick’s Murrumbeena church newsletter. The first one is from November 1969 and the second is April 1971. Both newsletter contain brief history of the church and lists of people and businesses that advertised in Tara Light. For both copies, there is a picture of the church exterior on the front page. The second document is an order of service for an Inter Church advent service at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. The particular service was done on 17/12/1987. Head and shoulders only. She is surrounded by a wreath of fern leaves. The photo is a souvenir, produced by Albert Bush, whose photo is in the lower rh corner, also with a fern surround. To the left of him, is a photo of his corner store, with workers in the street at front (eighteen people). In front of the store is also a horse and carriage and a horse drawn wagon loaded with bags of produce (wheat?). The triple photos are a souvenir for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, 1897 and also an advertisement for Albert Bush's Grocery Store.topic -

R.H. Hornby & Sons, jewellers, and V. Greenhill's Grocery Store were located at 43 1/2 and 45 High Street (formerly Bulleen Road) respectively, in the block of shops between Brougham Street and Walpole Street. The grocery first appears at this location in 1893 but only in 1902 is the jeweller's shop located next door. (Sands & McDougall Directories). The Greenhill family were significant pioneers of Kew in the nineteenth century and their members participated in many civic, community and sporting organisations.Original sepia, real photo postcard of two shops in High Street, Kew, circa 1902. The businesses were R. Hornby, jewellers and opticians, and V.G. Greenhill, grocer. The proprietor of the jeweller's shop stands in his doorway while a member of staff of Greenhill's is standing on the road with a horse and cart owned by the business. The signage on the grocery shop identifies the kind of business offered - Choice fruits & confectionery / Dairy Produce a specialty. On the windows from left to right are advertisements for Fry's Chocolate, Fry's Pure Cocoa, and Cadbury's Cocoa and Cadbury's Chocolate. In 1924, Arthur Arnold and his father Wilhelm Arnold had established a general store in High Street, near the water tower, but in 1931–32 they moved to new premises in High Street on the corner of what is now known as Elgin Boulevard. In 1933-34 they widened the frontage of the shop and added new premises at the rear for the sale of produce. The Arnolds continued to trade until they finally closed their store in 1950. Wilhelm Arnold was a brother of J G Arnold, whose business ultimately became the present-day Arnold’s Fruit Market, Wodonga.This is an image of an early Wodonga businessman who was also active in the communty.A black and white image of 2 children looking through the window of Arnold's store. John Matchett was born in Corbrackey, Ireland in 1828. His Wholesale and Family Grocers started in 1857. It was on the Corner of Hargreaves and Edward Streets, Bendigo. It was known as the BELFAST STORES, HARGREAVES-STREET WEST SANDHURST. After his death in1903, Robert Matchett carried on the Grocery and Produce Business.Black and white photograph on grey board. Row of brick 2 storey shops with verandas over footpath. Windows on second story have columns each side and curved and painted pediments over. On back of photograph is written: Matchett's Corner at Bath Lane end of City Club Hotel. Block of buildings at Charing Cross. Demolished - replaced by Fountain Plaza block.
