John Fletcher (1857-19/10/1903) was a shift boss at the Hustler's Mine. Formerly from Sebastian, he came to Bendigo in 1899. He married Eliz. Hinchcliff in 1881 and they lived in Job's Gully. He was a member of the Bendigo Miner's Association and often subscribed to the Bendigo Independent newspaper, which sent Mrs Fletcher a gift of 25 pounds in appreciation. He was killed in a mining accident at Hustler's Mine.Paper certificate mounted on card presented to Mrs Fletcher and family from Hustlers No. 1 mine, upon the death of John Fletcher in a mine accident. These men are the holders of an application for Gold Mining lease 10073 comprising about 90 acres in the Parishes of Yarraberb and Neilborough. The company is being formed to acquire the application for the lease and to carry out mining operations on and in the land comprised in the lease application. Dated 24th November 1933. Community people have been meeting over a few meetings to look at ideas to start a community garden in Long Gully. Some ideas are mentioned.
