Denis Gibbons (1937 – 2011) Trained with the Australian Army, before travelling to Vietnam in January 1966, Denis stayed with the 1st Australian Task Force in Nui Dat working as a photographer. For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries. The images held within the National Vietnam Veterans Museum make up the Gibbons Collection. Lightweight knee length linen coat with long sleeves. The coat is single breasted with a V neckline with a fold over collar of black linen fabric. There are two rows of black cotton piping on the edges of the collar. The front is made up of four pieces. The two centre panels are shaped at the bust line. The two side panels are narrow at the shoulders and flare slightly from the hip line to the hem line. There is a decorative line of stitching on the front seams. The front of the coat is fastened with three black buttons (2 cm) and button holes. The back of the coat is made up of three pieces. The centre panel is shaped in at the waistline. The two side panels are narrow at the shoulders and flare slightly from hip line to hemline. The two back seams each have three decorative black buttons (2 cm) vertically between bust line and waist. There is a decorative line of stitching on the back seams. The coat has long set in sleeves shaped at the elbow and with black linen cuffs (10 cm). There are two rows of black cotton piping on the top edge of each cuff and one row of black cotton piping on the lower edge of each cuff. There is a 14 cm cotton tape hanging tag stitched inside the coat just below the collar on the back. Machine stitched.costume, female daywear, linen coat

This is a very nice linen-backed map first published in 1860 and progressively updated, the latest being 1924 at the time of Government boring on the Poverty Reef. The map clarifies details of the mining leases as they stood in 1924, and the map also identifies previously uncertain details such as the location of the battery well, and also the location of the 1909 syndicate to the south of the Sandy Creek Co's shaft. The lightly pencilled location of the Birthday shaft is incorrect. This mine was located further to the east.

This is a very nice foolscap-size map, probably prepared by a Mines Department or other Government surveyor with the intention of assisting to attract mining capital to the goldfield. The red sketched-in deep lead positions are inaccurate. The pencil notation upper left reads "Lowther's Lease 6415". Lowther was a Tarnagulla mining promoter of the time. The Tarnagulla Racecourse location is marked as is the Woolshed Reef State School.

"Fruits of Your Handiwork" from the 'Woman's Needlework Feature" magazine article 26 July 1937 designed by Dorothy Ellsmore Paul.Dorothy Ellsmore Paul (née Dorothy May Ellsmore; 3 February 1902 – July 1973)[1] was an Australian artist and cartoonist. Paul was born Dorothy May Ellsmore in 1902 in Hertfordshire, England. She trained as an artist at Portsmouth Technical College. She left for Australia at just nineteen years old, arriving in Sydney on 18 March 1921. Once in Sydney she trained under Julian Ashton. She had ambitions of becoming a sculptor though this never eventuated. She was first published in The Sun with the cartoon We Do Believe in Fairies in their Sunbeams section. By 1924 she was drawing cartoons for the soldiers' magazine Aussie alongside fellow female cartoonists Mahdi McCrae, Betty and Esther Paterson, and Lillian Pedersen. The same year she exhibited her work in a black and white show at Anthony Hordern and Sons' Fine Art Gallery with such artists as Norman Lindsay, Percy Leason, and David Low. In 1926 she was illustrating short stories for The Australian Women's Mirror and the Sydney Mail. Her illustrations also featured in The Bulletin. In 1929 she edited a book The Etched Work of Sydney Long which included a sketch of hers of the artist. They were both associated with the Australian Painters-Etchers Society. Paul wrote the introduction for the Society's publication The Charm of the Etching. From 1931 to 1934 Paul wrote a feature section for The Australian Women's Mirror. She started with the technique for linocuts and also wrote on pattern printing, embroidery, crafting cuddle toys, making evening gloves, and even a frog pyjama case for children. These crafts and designs were featured in The Sun and The Mercury. She wrote and illustrated the stories Portrait of a Dark Girl and In Search of a Grandmother. She married fellow artist Oswald "Mick" Paul in 1925, son of artist and social reformer Emily Letitia Paul. His portrait of her was a finalist for the 1929 Archibald Prize. The Tawonga branch of the C.W.A. commenced on the 7th Feb. 1946 and often combined activities with the other branches in the Kiewa Valley. The C.W.A. aimed to improve health, welfare and education for women and children in the country.Women living in Tawonga were mostly on farms and, in 1946, when the branch commenced would have been feeling more remote with WW11 having had an effect of available workers and the well being of the women and children. This tea towel would have been used at a later date possibly for fund raising as the group continued to meet and work together.This large blue green, yellow, brown and black with a white border, linen, tea towel has the CWA logo in the middle with pictures of handcrafted items surrounding it. This item is one of many 19th century items donated to Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village by the Giles Family, and known as the “Giles Family Collection”. Henry Giles was born at Tower Hill, Victoria in 1858 and worked as a labourer on the Warrnambool Breakwater. His wife, Mary Jane, was born in 1860 at Cooramook and worked as a student teacher at Mailor’s Flat Secondary School. The Giles family lived at The Maam, Wangoom in the late 19th century, before moving to New South Wales in 1895, where Henry built bridges. Henry died in 1933 and Mary Jane died seven years later. Flagstaff Hill holds a number of objects associated with the Giles family, which were donated by Flagstaff Hill volunteers Vera and Aurelin Giles (Henry and Mary Jane’s daughter and granddaughter respectively). Drawn thread was an embroidery technique that appeared in the 17th century. In the late 19th and early 20th century it was used on linen and cotton to create decorative functional items such as this tablecloth. The item is of significance socially as an example of a decorative domestic object from the early 1900s. It is a fine example of drawn thread embroidery.Handmade decorative tablecloth created from soft white linen. The little blue bag was stirred around in the final rinse water on washday. It disguised any hint of yellow and helped the household linen look whiter than white. The main ingredients were synthetic ultramarine and baking soda, and the original "squares" weighed an ounce and cost 1 penny. Reckitt’s had been in the blue and starch business in Hull, England, even before they started importing French ultramarine in the 1850s to make the new blue rinse additive at their English factory. These blue bags, being alkaline , were useful to ease the pain of wasp, ant and insect bites.
