Lucas and his wife, Margaret (nee Wilson). Antonios J Lekatsas (Lucas) arrive in Australia in 1886 and was a founding member and of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. He was also the first president, a position he held from 1916 to 1924. He married Margaret Wilson, in 1893. Margaret was also very active in Ithacan Philanthropic Society and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary. Sister Hilda Samsing from Melbourne became a whistleblower when nursing aboard the hospital ship Gascon, outraged by the bungled evacuation of wounded Anzacs. She defied censorship and kept a very frank diary, reproduced here for the first time. In 1914, Louise Creed, a Sydney journalist, was caught in the besieged city of Antwerp and mad a hair-raising escape from a German firing squad. Brisbane's Grace Wilson, ordered to establish an emergency hospital on drought-stricken Lemnos Island, arrived there to find suffering Anzacs but no drinking water, tents or medical supplies. Grace and her nurses saved the lives of thousands who had been wounded at Lone Pine and The Nek. In France, Florence James-Wallace, Anne Donnell and Elsie Tranter nursed near the front line in the Casualty Clearing Stations, treating soldiers with hideous wounds or blinded by mustard gas. In 1918 they had to deal with an epidemic of Spanish flu, but their heroism was quickly forgotten. Two of these women received such meagre pensions, they died destitute. Publication of this book with its numerous illustrations has been facilitated by a generous donation from Dame Elizabeth Murdoch, keen that these stories become known to Australians of all ages.' Reginald was a baker in Linton (the last baker to work from the former Nicol bakery in Sussex Street). ...Leanne and Janette were the twin daughters of Reginald and Margaret Wilson. Reginald was a baker in Linton (the last baker to work from the former Nicol bakery in Sussex Street). The girls were born on 31st March 1965 and baptised 2nd May 1965. Baptism record Nos.: 852 & 853. School records show that the girls started school at Linton February 1970 before transferring to Macedon at the end of that year. In note from Leslie Cairns (née Hart) dated 4 November 2019: "My mum and dad spent quite some time at that bakery. Mum - Maisie Hart - used to enjoy working in the shop among the very special food, whilst Dad - Bill Hart - loved looking after the children especially the twin girls. They were very sad when the owners, Reg and Marg Wilson bought a bakery in Morowa - inland from Geraldton in West Australia. Competition from large bread companies was ruining their business.
