Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management. VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry. Students are taught active research and enquiry; rather than textbook learning and a one-size fits all approach. David NEWBERRY (1925-2003) Born Eltham, Victoria David Newbury's painting career started with late 1950s abstraction. He worked for four decades, until 1997, when his final works were created on his last trip to Venice. Newberry was the son artist A.E. Newbury, and painting after World War 2 at RMIT, teaching there from 1955 - 1959,. He then taught at Bendigo Teachers College 1959 - 61 and Melbourne Teachers' College/Melbourne College of Advanced Education 1962 - 83. Among his students were Robert Jacks, Peter Smales and Gareth Sansom. ‘You must capture change. One day the landscape is violet, another it’s bluer or it has pinkness, its darker or lighter. Michelle ZUCCOLO Born Orbost, Victoria Between 2004 and 2007 Michelle Zuccolo undertook a Master of Arts, (Visual Arts part-time by research) at the University of Ballarat (later Federation University Australia). Her BA (Fine Art) was awarded by the Victoria College of Art and Design, and she has a DipEd from Melbourne College of Advanced Education. Michelle Zuccolo's work is underpinned by an interest in the human psyche, expressed in related portraiture paintings, life drawing and sculpture.This work was a finalist in the Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize, and she won the 2021 $3,000 Local Art Prize for the painting Habitat (2020), which raises questions about interactions between introduced and native species. Vic WOOD (1939 - 02 October 2020) Born Melbourne, Victoria Vic Wood was an internationally renowned artist, craftsman and teacher from the 1970s. He studied gold and silversmithing, woodturning and cabinet making at Melbourne Teachers' College and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He was a skilled woodturner who, as a lecturer at Melbourne College of Advanced Education, taught a generation of woodworkers. Best known as a master wood-turner, Vic Wood retired from lecturing in 1983 to become a full-time woodturner. He was a sought after demonstrator and presenter for all kinds of local and international events. His teaching philosophy was simple: ‘share everything, have nothing to hide, and have no secrets; for ultimately it is in giving that you receive’. Vic Wood was a foundation member and inaugural president of the Victorian Woodworkers Association (VWA). In 1923 the Victorian Woodworkers Association announced the establishment of an annual Vic Wood Scholarship. he intent of the award is to promote excellence in woodwork and to engender inclusive and supportive woodworking networks. Deborah KLEIN (1951- ) Born Melbourne, Victorian Deborah Klein grew up in the inner southern suburb of St. Kilda and lived and worked in London from 1973 - 1980. The experience of living in both of these places was to have a significant and enduring influence on her work. She gained degree and post degree qualifications from Chisholm Institute of Technology, Melbourne and Gippsland College of Advanced Education, and a Research MA from Monash University, Gippsland. Since 1988 Deborah Klein has held regular solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Australia and internationally. Her work is represented in public and university museum collections throughout Australia. This work was exhibited as part of "Parallel Prints", a Prints project which presents the same exhibition simultaneously in New Zealand, at Art at Wharepuke and at a gallery in another part of the world. Eleven Australian artists were invited to join New Zealand-based printmaker Mark Graver to contribute to a portfolio that will be shown simultaneously at Art at Wharepuke, New Zealand and the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Victoria. Using the uniqueness of the reproducible print allows for the same works to be viewed at the same time on opposite sides of the world. This highlights the democratic nature of printmaking and questions the aura of the unique. Which venue is showing the 'real' work? Which the reproduction? The Australian artists showing alongside Mark Graver are James Pasakos, Bruno Leti, Martin King, David Frazer, John Neeson, Antonietta Covino-Beehre, Deborah Klein, Deborah Williams, Melissa Smith, Jodi Heffernan and Susanna Castleden. The original concept, Parallel Prints NZ-UK in 2013, included invited artists from the UK and New Zealand. It featured the work of twelve diverse artists presented in a portfolio set. Each artist contributed one work on 300 x 300 mm paper in an edition of thirty-six. Part of the concept behind the project was to donate twelve of the portfolio sets to international collections. Institutions that have accepted a portfolio include the Victoria & Albert Museum and The Ashmolean Museum in the UK, the Jinling Museum of Art in Nanjing, China, and the Whangarei Art Museum, in New Zealand. Tippett was a member of SMB Council from 1934-1960. He was President of the Council from 1940-1960. He was a member of the Interim Council established to plan the development of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. He then became a member of the Council of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. Anne completed her secondary education at Presentation College Windsor. She left Melbourne to study Librarianship at Ballarat College of Advanced Education and completed a Graduate Diploma of Librarianship in 1981 and a Graduate Diploma of Education in 1986. During her studies Anne E. Stewart produced weekly shows on 3BBB Community Radio Ballarat, `As the assistant children's librarian at Geelong in 1987 Anne E. Stewart drove the Jolly Jumbuck storytelling van to various local sites, gathered the children and told a story. A keen community player Anne E. Stewart has fulfilled a number of pro bono roles such as the President of the Australian Storytelling Guild (Vic Branch), and Council President of the Daylesford Primary School. Anne E. Stewart is a senior writer for the 'Swag of Yarns' and has worn the prestigious storytellers Cape at Dromkeen, an institution that nurtures and develops children's literature. Returning to her alma mater in 2007 Anne E. Stewart developed a ghost tour through the historic Ballarat School of Mines (SMB) campus. Established in 1870, and incorporating a former gaol, the SMB ghosts came to life as she enthralled numerous groups visiting the campus on Open Day 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2009 Anne E. Victorian Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (VIOSH) Australia is the Asia-Pacific centre for teaching and research in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is known as one of Australia's leaders on the field. VIOSH has a global reputation for its innovative approach within the field of OHS management VIOSH had its first intake of students in 1979. At that time the Institution was known as the Ballarat College of Advanced Education. In 1990 it became known as Ballarat University College, then in 1994 as University of Ballarat. It was 2014 that it became Federation University. VIOSH Australia students are safety managers, senior advisors and experienced OHS professionals. They come from all over Australia and industry.
