The event was held at the Glen Eira Town Hall Auditorium. 200 participants attended the seminar, which included guest speakers and information displays. The event was a partnership between Arthritis Victoria and the City of Glen Eira. Around 1998 to 1999, the Arthritis Foundation of Victoria (AFV) developed an Arthritis Self Management Course. Course leaders were trained to deliver the program, which utilised Kate Lorig and James F Fries' landmark self-help book, "The Arthritis Helpbook".
