There are also notes on the closures of the Provincial Tramways. Attached to the front are two letters, one to Mr Hayes from Felicity Kingerlee thanking him for his article. The second is a letter from Mr Hayes to Miss Kingerlee about enclosing notes on parcel tickets of the SECV Provincial Tramways. Sandhurst and Electric Tramways Company introduced the first trams to Bendigo in June 1890. These were battery operated trams but it soon became obvious that the battery life was unable to copy with Bendigo's hilly terrain. The trams were converted to steam in 1892. In 1899 the tramways were sold to the Electric Supply Company of Victoria and in 1903 the trams were converted to electricity. After WW1 the SEC was formed and took over the running of the trams. With the increased usage of cars, patronage of the trams began to drop off after WW2. In 1972 the tramways closed as a commuter service. Row 2, tickets 1-3, have an alphabetical prefix with a six digit identification number. The Row 3, 7 pence ticket has no identification although there is a label with the ticket which says "BALLARAT ?" The ticket in Row 1 (No 3) appears to have the date 19/4/41 written in pencil on the front face.
