Olympic Notebook - or Memo book, 128 pages, 4 sections, sewn within a cloth bound colour card cover. Note book, handwritten details the work carried out on MMTB trams between June 1974 and October 1975 at various depots. Proves the car number, depot, date, brief description of work. Entries have been individually crossed out, perhaps as a form written report completed. No details of the person who undertook the work. Donated by J W Gliddon with his comments on back of photograph. Taken when motorbike and car racing were run around the roads on Phillip Island. Racing first came to Phillip Island in 1927 in the form of a 200 mile road race for motorcycles on a circuit encompassing Cowes and Rhyll. In the next year, a shorter rectangular course, again on public roads, was used for the running of what became the first Australian Grand Prix. Eight successive Australian Grand Prix were run on this course before the race was moved elsewhere. Finally in 1935, racing was discontinued and Phillip Island lapsed into the tranquility and peacefulness of its quiet country and beach atmosphere.Black & White photograph of motorcycle riders on bike and sidecar. Wodonga Water Tower was officially opened on 4th December 1924 to store water for the town of Wodonga. Due to increased consumption demands and the construction of a large reservoir, the Water Tower was decommissioned in 1959. It stood unused until the lower section was modified and put to use as Water Tower Shoe Repairs, better known as “Cobbler’s Inn” in 1961. Albert (Bert) Green and his wife Gwen opened a shoe repair business, Water Tower Shoe Repairs, at the base of the Wodonga water tower in 1961. Gwen added a florist shop which operated for some years In 1979 Ron Turton took over the Cobbler’s Inn in partnership with his brother-in-law Len Freyer. Len entered the trade as an apprentice with Quinn's Bootmakers of Wodonga at the age of 14 and later worked with Mr. Green. Ron’s son, Justin also joined the business and took over from his father in 2018. The Cobbler’s Inn was closed in 2024.This item is significant because it was displayed outside a well-known and unique Wodonga Business for approximately 60 years.A collection of images which tell some of the story of the Cobbler's Inn in Wodonga. 1. .1 - Legal document - tender document - typed carbon copy titled "Supply and Erection of gates and paling fence and repairs to existing fences at the Royal Park car shed" with specification for the work, dated 25/3/1920 asking for prices - single sheet to be returned to the Secretary. .2 - same document but the lower portion has a price and name of the tenderer, John Broderick of Napier St Footscray, for 21 pounds. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Darryl James Rowe was a qualified instrument repairer. He specialized in Vintage car instruments on dash boards. These would include speedometers, car clocks, ammeters, oil gauges, ignition switches, temperature gauges, glass tube fuel gauges and dials repaired. He was located in Vickers Street Sebastopol. Documents relate to the years 1984 to 1986.Decal designs various sizes for car dash boards. A dark blue cardboard cover with dark blue tape dwon the spine. On the front cover there is the Rolls Royce logo in gold. Under this reads Maintenance Manual then Rolls-Royce Limited, Derby England also in gold. Down the spine there is a lael which reads Minor & In Service Repairs, Gazelle MK 165c01 Series Engine Change Unit. Work was being done repairing a bridge on the Sunbury - Bendigo line at the former Rupertswood siding, which in the past was used initially by guests who would arrive at the Rupertswood mansion and of later years by students from Salesian College. The siding has been dismantled. Students now use buses to travel to and from the school.A scanned non-digital black and white photograph of work being done along a rail line. Repairs to the Port Melbourne Town Hall clock tower were undertaken c.1950. One member of Council staff stands on top of the pediment while the other 5 are on the temporary scaffolding.
