St. Kilda was declared to be a City on 8 September, 1890 and the official public Proclamation ceremony and celebration to mark its elevation from a Borough to a City was on 2nd December, 1890. Around 3,000 local school children joined in the celebrations. Brighton Road State School is now known as St Kilda Primary School and dates back to 1 January 1875. The fabric and printing indicates that the ribbon is an original rather than a reproduction. Gold coloured ribbon with frayed edge, printed in blue. One page handwritten letter, written by the donor of the ribbon, describing how the day was celebrated at Brighton Road School, where she was a student.Ribbon: CITY OF ST KILDA City of St Kilda logo PROCLAMATION DAY 2nd. On Tuesday 28th September 1937, to the applause and cheering of a crowd of more than 300 people, a ceremonial ribbon was cut with a ‘beautiful pair of silver scissors’ by Mrs W H Everard, wife of local MP William Everard. The ribbon cutting ceremony was to officially turn on the mains electricity supply to Whittlesea and district. The moment the ribbon was cut there was a ‘blaze of light’. There were initially 78 customers, including the Shire of Whittlesea which had contracted the SEC to supply street lighting in Whittlesea, Yan Yean, Mernda and South Morang (Advertiser, Friday 1st October 1937, page 1). This ribbon is possibly a fragment of the official opening ribbon that was stamped with the date and details of the switching on of electricity in Whittlesea and given to patrons. Medal ribbon used for Olympic medals in the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games and made from fine 19.5 micron merino wool. It was made by Melbourne company TD Noone Woven Products who created the ribbon on a conventional ribbon loom. The finishing processes were undertaken by Superior Fit Australia, an Albury-based company. The ribbon was colour tested against various garment colours to confirm design suitability and colour balance and trialed for wearer comfort as it needed to be soft against the skin when carrying a medal. Durability was important as an Olympic medal is a lifelong keepsake. This blue ribbon was created for the Melbourne Royal Show in 1933. The inscription does not specify which competition it was awarded for, suggesting it came from a larger set of ribbons distributed across the classes. As a blue ribbon, it would have been awarded for first prize. The ribbon is in very decent condition given its age, with little fading of the text.A blue ribbon with yellow print.MELBOURNE ROYAL SHOW, 1933.melbourne royal show, competition, prize, 1933 melbourne royal show

The Riding of the Bounds was an annual event that took place in Berwick. It linked back to a centuries-old tradition in sister city Berwick upon Tweed, England. Riders followed a route through local streets and participate in ceremonies along the city's border. The Mayor would wave off riders from the local showgrounds with instructions to inspect the boundary with the neighbouring municipality. Once the ride was complete, the Marshall would report back to the Mayor that the boundaries were secure, and this would herald the commencement of the presentation ceremony. This re-enactment of the Berwick-Upon-Tweed Riding of the Bounds was filled with pomp and ceremony and many of the riders took the opportunity to dress in period costume in recognition of the history of this event.
