Emerald Museum & Nobelius Heritage ParkAward - Football Trophy, Nutting & Young, 1977
... The football was manufactured by historic Victorian sports equipment makers, Nutting & Young, who ceased operations in 1977. This is an example of a creative sporting trophy which recognised an Emerald Football Club player's outstanding achievement. ...The Emerald Football club history dates from 1904, and like many local clubs and organisations, has always played an important role in the community. This trophy was awarded to Geoff "Digger" Dolan of the Emerald Football Club for scoring 15 goals in a single match against the Woori Yallock Club on the 9th of July 1977. The match broke the club record at the time, resulting in 120 goals being scored in 12 matches from the 16th of April to 9th of July 1977. The trophy consisting of an Australian Rules football mounted on a stand was probably the same football that was used in the match. The football was manufactured by historic Victorian sports equipment makers, Nutting & Young, who ceased operations in 1977.This is an example of a creative sporting trophy which recognised an Emerald Football Club player's outstanding achievement. Local football and other sporting teams are often integral to the economic and social development of an area.A trophy consisting of an actual Australian Rules football secured onto a hard plastic stand with a metal clasp. A metal plaque on the stand is inscribed with the award details. The football is mounted in an upward and forward position as though ready to be kicked. On metal plaque inscribed: 'PRESENTED TO G. 'DIGGER' DOLAN / CLUB RECORD OF 15 GOALS IN A MATCH / AGAINST WOORI YALLOCK JULY 1977 / 102 GOALS IN 12 MATCHES / 16 APRIL 1977 - 5 JULY 1977' On the football, printed: 'Football made by Nutting & Young, Vic/ NFL APPROVED' Also on the football handwritten signatures of (presumably) other team membersemerald football club -
Emerald Museum & Nobelius Heritage ParkAward - Sherbrooke Netball Association Open Mixed Perpetual Shield 2010-13, 2010
... players to continue running the open mixed championship. This shield recalls a long-standing, now-defunct local netball competition, including two consecutive victories by the Emerald team. Sports ...The Sherbrooke Netball Association (SNA) ran competitions from the mid-1970s until 2017-18, with Emerald teams still competing in the final roster available online from August 2017. However, by this point the SNA had been in a slow decline for at least a decade, with teams gradually moving to the Mountain District Netball Association. This Perpetual Shield Trophy - a wooden trophy in the shape of a shield with metal mini-shields designed to have each year's winner engraved on them - only saw four winners engraved on it, with the other 15 slots left empty. The most recent winner was Emerald in 2013; given this was several years before the competition fully ended, it is possible that by 2014 there were alreeady not enough teams and players to continue running the open mixed championship. This shield recalls a long-standing, now-defunct local netball competition, including two consecutive victories by the Emerald team. This item is a wooden shield-shaped trophy. Affixed to it in a rectangular grid (four rows and five columns) are brass mini-shields, in the same shape as the wooden shield. The middle space of the second row of shields is replaced with a badge, showing the logo of the Sherbrooke Netball Association. The first four mini-shields are engraved with years (2010-13) and team names; the other 15 are left blank. At the top, the name of the league is displayed in black on a brass background, atop a title ribbon design.Top: "SHERBROOKE NETBALL ASSOCIATION / ** OPEN MIXED ** / PREMIERS" Centre: "SHERBROOKE / Netball Association" First Shield: "2010 / BEACONSFIELD" Second Shield: "2011 / SILVAN / (BLACK)" Third Shield: "2012 / EMERALD" Fourth Shield: "2013 / EMERALD"sports, 2010s, sherbrooke netball association -

The earliest board games date from the mid-18th century and were printed on copper or steel plates and coloured by hand. By 1839 lithography was first used, making it possible for publishers to produce larger quantities of all types of toys. By the 1890s the games were mounted on to a folded board. Popular subjects were of an historical or geographical nature, as well as transport including motoring, aviation and railways and various sports. The board game 'A Motor Ride' ,made by The National Game Company, was possibly the first large-scale manufacturer of locally-designed board games in Australia. The firm was established in Ballarat, Victoria, at the beginning of the twentieth century by W. Owen. Other board games made by National include the 'Victory-United Nations" game, 'Fairyland', 'Yacht Race', 'Golf Game', 'Bicycle Game', Steeple Chase', 'Our Great Game' about football, 'Courtship and Marriage', 'Around the Commonwealth by Aeroplane', and 'Dugouts and Trenches' as well as the more traditional games such as Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and Noughts and Crosses. This game board has been well-used. The game is significant because it uses scenarios familiar to Australian children in the first half of the twentieth century. This game board reflects the experience of being a child in the twentieth century. Toys were how children were socialised and taught. Most toys mimic the adult world, and looking at them can tell us something about how the world has changed. A folding game board for The national Bicycle Game for 2,3 or 4 players. It has a yellow spiral track on which the player progresses at the throw of the die, starting at the clubhouse until reaching home. In the background are pictures of rural scenes.board-games recreation cycling national-game-company -

He met and married Ethel Smith who had grown up at Panton Hill; her great grandparents Sarah and Samuel Smith came from Lancashire where they had a cotton mill and iron foundry, settling at Smith Gully between Panton Hill and St Andrews. Their son Edwin married Louisa Purcell whose parents owned the Caledonie Hotel at Smiths Gully; they had 12 children and settled on a property in Cherrytree Road. Son Edwin left Panton Hill school aged 11 in 1885 and worked with his father and uncle fencing the family property. Edwin had nine children, Ethel being the seventh. Now retired, Bert spends time speaking with radio operators around the world and the couple are involved with sports including the Montmorency Bowling Club; they were foundation members of the Hurstbridge Bowling Club. Marjorie North (nee Cooper) was 14 when her family moved from the city to Montmorency when the railway station was first built in 1923. Marjorie described her memories of Montmorency at that time. The artwork 'Momentum' draws on the coalescing flows of traffic, sound, air, time, water, and human kinetic energy, mapped together into a horizon of oscillating lines."'Momentum' was commissioned for the new Mary Rogers Sports Pavilion at Ryans Reserve, Richmond, a $3 million redevelopment in partnership with the Victorian Government. Rohan gathered many signatures from players ...Information provided to the Bendigo Historical Society by Rohan Moresi: Rohan 'grew up on a farm near Buckrabanyule. The bat belonged to Rohan and his brothers, Grant and Alistair. At the age of twelve in early December of 1977, my father took my brothers and myself to the Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo to watch a match of the newly created World Series Cricket being played. West Indies versus World XI. OI took the one cricket bat we owned and a market pen, along with me. During the course of the match I gathered all the signatures I could from players as they left the field after batting, as they sat in the stands waiting for their turn to bat, and when they were fielding close to the boundary. I remember Clive Lloyd, who was sitting in the stands when I approached him, expressing some good natured scepticism that the signatures would remain permanently on the bat as he was signing it, due to the tyupe of marker pen used. I also recall Tony Greig not stopping to sign it as he left the field after batting. I'm sure he had other more pressing issues on his mind at the time. When we returned home my father painted a type of a lacquer over each of the signatures in an attempt to ensure some sort of permanency. As it was the only cricket bat my brothers and I had, we continued to use it in our backyard games. Which goes a long way in explaining its current state. My brothers and I all left the farm in the early 1980's and I took the cricket bat with me. Since then it has remained in my possession up until now. I'm very happy to see it returned to the place of its origin, and for it to be kept in perpetuity at the Bendigo Hisgtorical Society, as it is part of the twentieth century history of Bendigo. I hope it brings some small pleasure to all who are interested in such things'. Rohan Moresi Cricket bat, blue material on handle grip of bat. Bat has signatures on the blade section.
