'Lost Glories: a memorial to forgotten Australian buildings' was published by David Latta in 1986. It tells the story of a number of significant Australian buildings that had previously been demolished. A chapter in the book was devoted to Goathland, later known as Tara Hall. To supplement the text, he sourced photographs from a range of suppliers, chiefly the Royal Women's Hospital which had once owned Tara Hall, but had sold it in 1960. Bivouac Hut was built in 1935 on the Northern end of Mt. Bogong, on the Staircase Spur, about halfway to the summit. It was funded by Cleve Cole and he arranged for Walter Maddison to build it. Cleve Cole dedicated his life to the mountains and wanted to make them safer to visit - more huts and improved maps, pole lines and tracks. He perished in the winter of 1936 after attempting to make the first winter crossing from Mt. Hotham to Mt. Bogong on skis. The two others with him, Howard Michell and Mick Hull survived. The weather conditions were extreme at the time and having made the summit of Mt. Bogong they then became disorientated in the blizzard and came down the southern end of Bogong instead of the northern end . Howard Michell made it out to Glen Valley, a small mining town, to get help. Mick and Cleve were carried out on rough bush stretchers and Cleve died a few hours later. The Summit Hut was funded by Howard Michell and built in the 1940's. It was deliberately burnt down in the early 1980's. Bivouac hut was rebuilt in the 1980's.These photographs are of historical significance. Both huts were funded by experienced bushwalkers to provide shelter from the weather and so make walking and skiing in the area safer. They are both now gone with Bivouac being replaced with a more modern structure but there is nothing left of the Summit Hut. 5 coloured photographs, A4 in size, 4 near the summit of Mt. Two slide images of the staircase in the old Legacy House in Market Street, probably from the 1950s. It shows children and people gathered together, some are holding balloons and some have party hats on. Legacy rented the Market St premises for many years. It was part of the Western Market complex that was demolished and redeveloped in the early 1960s. Legacy held meetings, activities and the girls classes on the second floor of the building, accessed by this staircase, but it was barely fit for purpose. In the 1940s a generous donation by an anonymous donor meant Legacy could purchase a building at 342 Swanston St, but due to several factors were never able to inhabit it. Mt Bogong is the highest mountain in Victoria. The Staircase Spur track to its top starts at Mountain Creek Road going through forest and continuing above the snow line to grass land. Maidment, who had arrived in Australia from the Glastonbury district in England in 1858, owned and managed a number of sheep stations in Victoria and subsequently became an '... eminently respectable ...' member of District society. In 1883 the Rate Books list Maidment's land in Barkly Road as the 'Buxton Hill Estate' and it was given an N.A.V. of £90, while in the following year his property attracted an N.A.V. of £160, suggesting that substantial improvements were taking place. Maidment's two-storey mansion, named 'Butleigh Wooton' after his birth-place in England, was completed in 1885 and was given an initial N.A.V. of £420. While Maidrnent is recorded as the owner of the building until at least 1896, Jane Maidment, his wife, continued the family ownership of the twenty-six roomed house with its extensive grounds until at least 1910. Devizes is a medieval market town in the centre of Wiltshire, near Stonehenge and Avebury, and east of Bath. Ballarat Female Refuge was established by a group of Ballarat women in 1867. It moved from Grant St to the position in Scott's Parade in 1884. The building was used continuously as a refuge until the 1940s. Parma House was bult by Italian born Fabrizio Crippa. It was restored from a burnt wreck to Villa Parma by Richard Rigby and Franchek. Walls were scraped back to the original, and burnt umber detailing added. Robin Boyd wrote two books on Japanese architects and architecture - “Kenzo Tange” published by George Braziller in 1962 and “New Directions in Japanese Architecture” published by Studio Vista in 1968.
