This is an example of Melbourne Legacy promotional material that was issued to inform the public on the work of Legacy. It was a snapshot of statistics to help inform people about Legacy. Comparing two cards, the number of widows doubled between 1966 and 1982, but the number of children in 1982 was less than a third of the number in 1966. It shows that Legacy had an influx of ageing widows to take care of. Years 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1982. The Australian Bureau of Statistics developed the Australian Standard Classification of Languages for use in the collection, storage and dissemination of all Australian statistical and administrative data relating to the languages spoken in Australia. The classification was a response to wide community interest in the language usage of the Australian population and the consequent need to provide quality and consistent statistical and administrative data on this topic. This second edition is part of a periodical review process that aims to reflect changes to Australia's language profile.
