Photograph - Black and white of ESCo tram 8 towing a former horse tram as a trailer. Tram 8 has been fitted with windscreens and is in a one-man operation configuration with the rear entry closed off. There are passengers in the tram but there do not appear to be any in the trailer. Given that the weather blinds of tram 8 are drawn or closed, it is likely a winter day, and possibly the trailer is being used as the bicycle transfer car between the depot and the city office. The photographer is not known. The photograph shows a cable tram set being towed out of a car depot or car house by a tractor, North Fitzroy Nicholson St depot. The grip is in the raised position, with the gripman's hands on the brake levers. The conductor is waiting to pull the pin that secures the tow bar. The tram has the destination of Spencer St. Photo late 1930s or 1940. Photo shows W class tram 301 derailed at the intersection of Coldblo Road, the entry into Malvern Tram Depot, and Glenferrie Road. The tram has struck and partly demolished the verandah of a building in front of it. Many uniformed employees are standing around, an overhead tower truck can be seen at the front of the tram. A towing chain is on the ground. The tram has the destination on the side set to Esplanade. The tram was converted to a W2 class tram during Jan. 1930.
