Photo shows W class tram 301 derailed at the intersection of Coldblo Road, the entry into Malvern Tram Depot, and Glenferrie Road. The tram has struck and partly demolished the verandah of a building in front of it. Many uniformed employees are standing around, an overhead tower truck can be seen at the front of the tram. A towing chain is on the ground. The tram has the destination on the side set to Esplanade. The tram was converted to a W2 class tram during Jan. 1930. Negative (120) of a W2 descending the Collins St hill to Swanston St, early to mid 1930's. Tram does not appear to have been fitted with a route number box. The Manchester Unity Building was completed during 1932. Tram number appears to be 394. This was a Kew tram at the time and has the appropriate roof, but it could be another tram. Many motor vehicles in the view. Has the City of Melbourne Town Hall in the view. Each copy consists of a chapter, one page titled "Early History", five pages titled "Part 1 - Horse Trams - Ballarat 1887 - 1905, Sebastopol 1893 - 1912, Ballarat East Nil" Notes on the construction of the tramway, opening, personalities, Julien Battery tram, and half a page titled "Bits of Interest". The 3rd chapter, 3 pages, titled "Part 2 - Electric Trams - Ballarat 1905, Ballarat East, Sebastopol 1912". Notes the early power supply history in Ballarat, opening of the electric routes, (conversion of horse trams to electric), and the purchase of new trams ex Melbourne 1930. Chapter ends with 3 short paragraphs notes on the SEC taking over, Conductresses during the war and reconstruction. 1019.1 and 1019.2 - Black and white photograph of SEC Tram 14 involved with a collision with a Ford truck during 1939 on the corner of Drummond St. North and Webster St. Ford truck registration 277.745 . Both vehicles have windows smashed and other damage. Tram painted in 1930's colour scheme with a small "Pay as You Enter" sign adjacent to the open door. Known to be SEC photos originally. See SEC Photo collection item. Was reprinted in the Ballarat News during the early to mid 1980's. Other photos of this accident gave close up details of lining used in the tram paint scheme. Framed set of 17 No. 60mm x 38mm black and white photographs (see 588 - 604) showing arrival of new trams ex Melbourne in 1930, construction of Lydiard St North track relaying in Ballarat during 1937, opening of Lydiard St. extension in 1937 and two Geelong trams in 1937. Mounted on a white cardboard based with captions written under photos in brown ink, red ink underline contained within a brown stained wooden frame with glass front and cardboard backing sheet, held with small nails.
