Two Newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Thursday 19/8/1971 of two photos of a bogie trams in Sturt St. The first one with tram 40 derailed near the intersection of Sturt St with another bogie tram behind. Both trams showing destination of "Special". The photos are associated with a tram tour for Ballarat North Technical School. See Reg items 3765, 3766 for actual prints of the Courier photographs. Second cutting dated 23/7/71 discusses the replacement of the trams with buses, the various dates and trams being sought for preservation after closure, including the City of Ballaarat, the Borough of Sebastopol and the BTPS. Quotes Mr. Pellas, the manager of the Mid-Western Electricity Supply Branch. Newspaper cutting has been altered by cutting to fit the required space on the sheet, and possibly has left out a line in the last column.In red ink in on the first cutting, adjacent to the photo caption "19/8/71" and on second cutting, "23/7/71" in red ink on the right hand upper side of the cutting. Possibly 1971 or early 1972 prior to closure. 1 - High St Eaglehawk with Primary School hall behind. 2 - Tram 28 from another tram's window - note no driver. 3 - trams 28 and 30 in McCrae St with the Bendigo Technical College building in the background. 4 - Tour trams turning from Bernard St into View St with the Five Lions Hotel in the background with a Fosters Lager advertisement. Frontpage has a photo titled "Trams are their hobby" showing a photo of a large group of tram enthusiasts visiting Ballarat as part of the Australian Electric Traction Association (AETA) Easter meeting and Ballarat tour of 1962. Page 3 has an article titled "Their hobby is electric traction" - about some 84 members chartering a rail motor to Ballarat on Saturday 21 April 1962, and the use of two special trams. Quotes Mr. Ken Craven about the association. Was welcomed by Mr L. Denmead of the SEC. Notes no member of the tour was a current transport worker and that it was the second such tour to Ballarat.
