Colour slide of VR class tram 53, route 30, westbound in La Trobe St on the bypass built to enable the construction of the Melbourne Central or Museum station between Dec 1973 and 1978 - see reference. The concrete looks relatively new in the photograph. The tram was originally built by the Victorian Railways for their St Kilda Brighton tramway in 1942. It is currently on display at the Melbourne Tram Museum. Many of the buildings in the background have since been demolished. The track was reconstructed to realign the roadway as part of roadworks to eliminate a sharp curve at the intersection in Nov. 1973 1 - W2 605 turning from Power St into Riversdale Road before reconstruction of the corner. Shows the location of the tram stop. Slide no. MP120 2 - SW6 879 turns from Power St into Riversdale Rd with works underway. Photo of Ballarat No. 18 photographed alongside MMTB AEC Regal Mk III bus, No. 543 (42 seats) (Reg. No. HJG 543). No. 18 has a specially painted board over the front of the tram "60th Anniversary / Electric Trams / 1905 Ballarat 1965". Standing between the tram and Bus are Les Denmead, D. Irvine, J. Dowd and T.
