Cash book of Gembrook Nurseries (Nobelius Nursery) years 1903 - 1951. The business was purchased by S and L Linton in 1955, but continued to operate under the name of CA Nobelius and Sons. Donated to the museum as a record of a major employer and historical figure of the area. The volumes were found by Clem Worrell in the basement of a shed on the former nursery site. Early volumes include records of personal as well as business expenses incurred by CA Nobelius. Also included are records of tree sales, names of employees and customer details. The poster belonged to an Emerald real estate agency which is no longer in operation. The donor of this sign had advised that the sign dates from the 1980s and has provided information about the proprietors at that time (who were not part of the Nobelius family). The agency was originally founded by Arch Nobelius, one of the sons of famous Emerald Nurseryman, Carl Axel Nobelius in 1922. Arch Nobelius sold it in 1946.The Nobelius Real Estate Agency is part of a broader historical narrative that includes the establishment of the Nobelius Nursery and the family's significant contributions to the development of Emerald. The belt was made c 1940s for military personnel and was used by Walter Baguley and donated by his son Robert (Bob) Baguley. Walter (Wally) Baguley 1920-1994 joined the military forces in 1940 under the title of Citizen Military Services Personnel. Earlier in his life, he worked for the Nobelius Nurseries where he became skilled at grafting. Later, he worked with the Postmaster General's Department.Item is in good condition. The Baguley family are long term residents of the Emerald District. Walter Baguley served with the Citizen Military Services Personnel during World War II and this belt may date from that time and may have been used by him.Khaki Green fabric belt. Carl Axel Nobelius (1851-1921) was born in Finland of Swedish parents. He migrated to Australia in 1870 and became a paramount plant nursery proprietor, operating extensive nurseries in Emerald,. Victoria and in Tasmania. His property in Emerald now constitutes Emerald Park. The bust was on display in Emerald Museum but is now lost.The bust provides a clear likeness of one of Emerald's most significant personages.
