The Tawonga post office was officially opened on 4th October 1879. It had several locations (mostly near the centre of town) over the years and several operators including local families such as the Ryders, the Drummonds, the Coads, the Hollonds and more recently the Talbots and Ryders. Skittles was a game of European origin maybe as early as the 4th or 5th century and became popular in England in the 14th century. Many Bendigo hotels included Skittle Alley's and some early mentions of these include Epsom in 1856. Teams could even play for monetary prizes.
