In the centre is a circular red medallion featuring an embroidered battalion badge. ...Ceremonial object 67th BATTALION COLOURS ...The 67th Battalion was raised in mid 1912 as a local militia training battalion in Bendigo. During World War One, many of its members enlisted in the newly formed 38th Battalion which was raised in Bendigo in 1916. At one point it was a garrison battalion stationed at Queenscliff. It was disbanded in 1918 and became the area 38th Battalion. The colours were laid up in St Paul's Cathedral in Bendigo on October 25th 1929. In 2006, with the cathedral needing to carry out repairs and alterations, the colours were offered to Bendigo's Soldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum. On 17th April, 2007 under direction from RSM Ceremonial, the colours were re-laid up in the museum in a ceremony conducted by the Reverend Peta Sherlock and witnessed by church and RSL members after 12 months of planning and putting together..1) Middle banner in the photograph. A sewn sleeve for the pike is on the right hand side. .2) Wooden pike with metal spear head on end. McCOLL believed to be James Hiers McCOLL father of Lieut. Hugh McCOLL, C Coy 38th Battalion AIF. Pre war Hugh McColl spent 11 years in the junior and senior cadets and then 1 year as a Commissioned Officer in the local 67th Batt. He enlisted in the AIF with the rank of 2nd Lieut on 1.3.1916 aged 27 years 4 months. Embarked for England on 20.6.1916 and then France in November 1916. WIA on 12.10.1917 with concussion, hospital 7.4.1918 with sprained ankle, KIA by machine gun fire on 12.8.1918 during an advance near Proyart. There are 9 clasps denoting overseas service and 3 clasps denoting Long Service. Francis William (Dinky) Dean (born Kerang) enlisted in the 2nd AIF No VX93960 on 16.12.43 age 18 years. He went on to serve with the 2nd/2nd Pioneers in the islands ending up on Morotai at wars end. At the end of 1945 while still overseas 3 new Battalions were formed for service wth BCOF in Japan. They were the 65th, 66th and 67th Bn’s made up from 3 Aust Divisions 6th, 7th and 9th. Frank was one of the first to sign up in the 65th Bn with same Regt No. They moved to Japan in early 1946. While still in Japan in 1947 there was a period called the Interim Army while the 65th, 66th and 67th Bn’s were designated 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn’s R.A.R, Aust Regular Army. His Regt No changed to 3742 and the 65th became the 1st Batt of the R.A.R. He then served with 1 RAR in Korea 7.4.52 to 28.2.53, 3.3.54 to 24.3.56. Malaya during the Emergency/ Confrontation Oct 1959 to Oct 1961. Vietnam 1.6.65 to 7.6. 66, 18.3.68 to 11.2.69. Malaya 1969-70. Frank was discharged from the Army on 19.12.1975 with the rank of Quarter Master Sergeant with a total of 32 years service. He was the longest serving member of 1 RAR, he had a final posting to RMC prior to discharge. BEM (British Empire Medal) For service in Korea. ... In November 1914, the 67th (Bendigo) Infantry C.M.F. were called up for full time service to guard the heads at Port Philip. The Lord Mayor, Cr Beebe, noted the Battalion did not have their own "colours" so he promised to have one made. ...This was done, then the "Colour" of the 67th Bendigo Infantry was presented to the Battalion in Bendigo, April 1915. ...In November 1914, the 67th (Bendigo) Infantry C.M.F. were called up for full time service to guard the heads at Port Philip. The flag or colour is held in the Bendigo Military Museum, along with two Union Jacks from the Boer War.Off white sheet of paper with the Company letterhead, phone no's and address. Dated 1915, May 11. All printing is in black ink. Glued to the receipt is a small pink slip which is the receipt for cheque of .25.13.00. (25 pounds 13 shillings). That pink slip has a one penny Victorian Stamp Duty stamp on it. Dated 7 July 1915. The receipt shows; 1 Regimental Flag cost 25.5.6d. Packing case for flag 0.7.6d.
