The 67th (Bendigo) Infantry was the local Militia Infantry Unit from 1912-1918. It's members came from Bendigo up to Deniliquin and Bendigo up to Kerang - Swan Hill areas.This is a leather bound book (Manuscript). The type of leather is called "old goat leather". The title and words are gold embossed. It is fastened with 4 brass Chicago screw binders. Inside are pages of A4. size. The history section is of 165 pages - text, images, black and white and colour. Has a laurel wreath, inside this is a crest with 2 standing horses which are supporting a coat of arms. .1) & .2). Benjamin Noel Edwards had several years pre WW1 service in the 67th Infantry. He enlisted in the AIF No 909 in H Coy 7th Batt on 18.8.1914 age 20 years 5 months. Promoted L/Cpl 13.9.1914, Cpl 24.9.1914, embark for Egypt 19.10.1914, embark for Gallipoli 5.4.1915, promoted Sgt 30.4.1915, promoted 2nd Lieut to date from 29.4.1915, KIA 8/9th August 1915. In 1914, Bendigo and Northern Victoria Citizens Force Unit was the 67th (Bendigo) Inf. Castlemaine and Central Vic had the 66th (Mt Alexander) Inf. The book was written by Lt.Col A. H. The 67th Battalion was raised in mid 1912 as a local militia training battalion in Bendigo. During World War One, many of its members enlisted in the newly formed 38th Battalion which was raised in Bendigo in 1916. At one point it was a garrison battalion stationed at Queenscliff. It was disbanded in 1918 and became the area 38th Battalion. The colours were laid up in St Paul's Cathedral in Bendigo on October 25th 1929. In 2006, with the cathedral needing to carry out repairs and alterations, the colours were offered to Bendigo's Soldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum. On 17th April, 2007 under direction from RSM Ceremonial, the colours were re-laid up in the museum in a ceremony conducted by the Reverend Peta Sherlock and witnessed by church and RSL members after 12 months of planning and putting together..1) Middle banner in the photograph. The 34th Infantry Brigade was raised in Moratai and consisted of three Infantry Battalions. Namely the 65th / 66th /and 67th Battalions. On the 23rd November 1948 they became the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions. The Royal Australian Regiment became the key component of the new Australian Regular Army. The 34th Battalion 1RAR/ 2 RAR and 3 RAR saw service in WW11 in Korea and Vietnam.Gilded brass hat badge showing a round wattle wreath with "St Edwards" crown over a kangaroo and 2 crossed .303 rifles.Kangaroo and wattle are distinctly Australian - from the TAC signs of the parent units.
