Mrs Ida Buckley wrote to the Mayor of Ballarat concerning a plaque in memory of Adam Lindsay Gordon, where it should be positioned within Craig's Hotel. Mrs Buckley requests copies of the Courier when there is an account of the unveiling of the plaque.The Adam Lindsay Plaque Is part of the Gordon history in Ballarat, considered important in 1934. He had an odd No 449179 in 6th Bn (RMR), this changed to V55220, made L/Cpl 1.8.1940, transfers to the 2nd AIF No VX112283 on 29.10.1942. At some point he obviously signs on at wars end and his No changes to 337514, discharged from the services on 1.11.1958 with the rank of Major in Signals Cipher. Telegram, 15th September 1872
Edward Buckley died at Newbridge in 1878, a resident for 17 years. He established and operated a flour mill (Lancaster Bridge) which was sold two months after his death. A large lot of papers, including this and other telegrams, were apparently found in the ceiling cavity of the Sandy Creek/Tarnagulla Post and Telegraph Office in the later 20th Century, during building works. Donald Clark Collection. Telegram sent from Tarnagulla Telegraph & Post Office. From Edward Buckley, Newbridge to Mr L Fraser, Baker, Sandhust. Message reads 'Please tell my Teamster to bring Malt from Kangaroo and oblige by giving him Four Pounds for freight'. -
