The site is still a jewellery shop. This is a dish or pin tray sold in Warrnambool as a souvenir of the city. It features Shelly Beach, one of the popular picnic spots, especially in the first half of the 20th century. This dish was made by Royal Stafford China and was presumably produced with a plain centre so that an illustration of a tourist spot in Australia could be reproduced on the dish. There were many similar items produced by Royal Stafford China that featured Warrnambool scenes and were selling in Warrnambool in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. They were all good quality items and so many have survived today. They were useful as well as decorative – vases, plates, cups and saucers etc. Some business houses in Warrnambool also had Royal Stafford China souvenir items featuring the business name to sell or give away to customers. Tourism in Warrnambool has always been an important aspect of the city and this souvenir dish is a good example of the souvenir items on sale in the first five or six decades of the 20th century. It will be useful for display. This is a small white china dish or pin tray with a colour sketch (taken from a photograph?) of Shelly Beach in Warrnambool. The illustration covers most of the dish which has a gold edging. This is a dish made by the English company of Royal Stafford Bone China about 1920 and sold in Warrnambool as a souvenir of the city with an image of the scene at the mouth of the Hopkins River. The scene depicted shows the old Hopkins Hotel, Proudfoots Boathouse, Lyndoch and the Hopkins River Bridge. This dish is of some interest as an example of the type of high quality souvenir offered to local tourists in the early 20th century. It is historically interesting as it depicts the Hopkins River mouth about 1920 and there have been many changes since then.This is a white oval dish with fluting on the sides and fluted edges. The rim of the fluting is outlined in gold. On the inside base of the dish is a black and white image of the mouth of the Hopkins River. There are brown stains on part of the fluted material and the outside base has the maker’s shield and name. This is a dish sold to tourists visiting Warrnambool in the 1920s as a souvenir of Warrnambool and the Hopkins River. It was made by the Royal Stafford Bone China Company which was founded in the mid 1800s and based in Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England. The scene depicting the Hopkins River mouth shows the Lyndoch windmill, the Lyndoch bungalow built in the early 1920s by Florence Lake, Proudfoots Boathouse and the Rowing Club building. This dish is an interesting example of the high-quality souvenirs sold to tourists in the mid 1920s. Local Warrnambool residents may also have purchased an item such as this. The Maroondah System was first and foremost developed as a functional component of Melbourne's Water Supply System. In addition to functionality, the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW) envisioned the Maroondah Reserve to be enjoyed aesthetically and recreationally by the public. This souvenir illustrates the realisation of the Maroondah System as a local recreational and tourist attraction in the early 20th century. The Maroondah Reserve gardens were landscaped with English-style ornamental stonework, exotic trees, flower beds and rose gardens. All features of the water supply system became widely celebrated as beauty spots that continue to be very popular to this day with tourists and locals alike.
