For a number decades he was in partnership with George Paxinos in a fruit shop in Degraves Street in Melbourne's CBD, where at the time there were a variety of small businesses such as a butcher's shop, florist shop and a couple of coffee shops. Degraves Street is now renown as part of Melbourne's laneway culture and for it European style cosy cafes and coffee shops.
