The rug was made at Albion Mill in Geelong. It was owned by Mr Angus Peter and Ms Mary Anne Downie, the parents of Mary Virr (the donor). They lived in Cobden. Small dark red leather-bound folder/binder/booklet. Front cover has a gold circular stamp in the upper centre of cover. Folder contains brief information about the Albion Mills in Geelong, several images of sheep and a glossary of common woolen and textile industry terms. Folder was stored in a plastic sleeve with an envelope with two stamps advertising industrial events in Bradford. The writing on the envelope appears to be German or similar.ALBION MILLS/ GEELONG

These photographs were taken of The Advocate newspaper building in 2000, after a resident reported the presence of a beehive inside.These photographs capture the condition of the Black Powder Mill during the construction of the new suburb of Cairnlea. In one image, the newly built Parklea Avenue can be seen in the background. At the time, the mill had been earmarked for demolition by the developer. After sustained lobbying by the City of Brimbank and the Friends of the Black Powder Mill, the structure was ultimately saved. The rug was made at Albion Mills in Geelong. It was owned by Norman Downie, the uncle of Mary Virr (the donor) who inherited the rug after Mr Downie's death in the early 1990s. Mr Downie and his family had several connections to the wool industry in Geelong. He would send pieces of fabric out to Mrs Virr and her mother in Cobden every year. These photographs, taken by The Advocate in 1998, show the Eclipse Flour Mill, Sydney Street, Albion. The Eclipse Flour Mill (Former John Darliing and Sons Flour Mill) was part of the early industrial landscape of Sunshine during the first half of the 20th century. It operated near the rail and road freight corridors that made Sunshine a strategic manufacturing hub. Thomas Broadbent $ sons Ltd was established in 1864 in Huddersfield England. They are an engineering firm , specialists in heavy duty engineering products. By 1893 Broadbent had progressed to steam powered engines for the textile industry. Some of these machines operated for upwards of 50 years Today Broadbent is a leading world designer in the manufacture and maintenance of advanced centrifuges. This document is a manual for a suspended direct steam driven hydro extractor. It shows the various parts , maintenance instructions and erection and working instructions. While it is stamped as Albion Woollen mills which were situated at Geelong, it is likely to have connections to the Warrnambool Woollen Mills.This document is a good example of machinery manual. It is possibly linked to the Warrnambool Woollen Mill. The fact that the company which manufactured these items is still in existence today after 150 years is testament to the quality of the items produced.Cream coloured document with mainly black text with some red text for headings contained in the document. These photographs, taken by The Advocate newspaper in 1990, show the former John Darling & Son Flour Mill, now owned by Goodman Fielder, approximately twelve months after its closure. With the mill’s future uncertain, the site has been added to the Victoria's State Register of Historic Buildings. In 1990, the mill and silos were getting ready to be put up for sale.John Darling & Son Flour Mill in Albion is one of the most important industrial heritage sites in Melbourne’s west, a rare, largely intact example of a major early‑20th‑century roller flour mill, and a cornerstone of Sunshine’s transformation into a planned “garden industrial suburb.” These photographs capture the John Darling & Son Flour Mills when they had the stainless-steel silos which have been subsequently demolished. The Black Powder Mill is the last remaining building from the Albion Explosives Factory and is located in the suburb of Cairnlea. It was used to grind gunpowder for bombs and shells in WW2. In 2001 the Black Powder Mill was included in the National Trust's Heritage Register due to its cultural heritage significance.
