IN teh first article, Parents and the school committee argue that the council should improve the streets and footpaths so children can reach the school safely and “dry shod.” The committee believes the council has the authority to construct the roads and charge landowners, but only if the streets meet the required 50‑foot width. The article notes that significant money has already been spent on the school and that better roads would increase nearby property values. A key frustration is that the school was built “in the wrong place,” on or near private streets, complicating responsibility for upgrades. In the second clipping dated 11/7/2024, Mr. A. V. Greenwood raises the issue of gravelling the footpaths; The chairman responds that the league cannot act because the streets are privately owned. Mr. McClelland suggests involving the Education Department. Mr. Grant opposes spending ratepayer money on private streets. Attention is formally directed to the Education Department. Regarding Greenwood Avenue: Mr. Greenwood says streets south of the railway should be made. Mrs. Greenwood, owning most of the land, is willing to pay her share, but other owners must also contribute. No action is taken because responsibility lies with the landowners themselves.
