Tram 39 was built in 1914 by Duncan and Fraser for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It came to Ballarat in 1951 and was part of the SEC's consolidated tramcar fleet. It was converted to a static museum display and souvenir shop. In 1971 it went to the Lions Club of Lismore. Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society acquired it in 1976. (See No. 10755 for a series of 16 photographs of the return of tram 39 to Ballarat. These were taken by Campbell Duncan) The photograph shows Tram 39 and others at the Sturt Street holding depot. This was located in Sturt Street between Greville Street and Lydiard Street. This was where the trams waited to cater for the peak travel times. The numbers on the other trams cannot be identified. Tram 39 was built in 1914 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. In 1951 it was sold to the State Electricity Commission, Ballarat, and renumbered 39. When the Ballarat Tramways closed in 1971, it was sold to Lismore Lions Club and displayed in a recreational reserve. Ballarat Tramway Museum purchased the tram in 1976 and converted it into a museum display and souvenir centre. This was used until the new Museum building was opened in 2022. These photos show the process of loading the tram onto a truck in Lismore and bringing it back to Ballarat. The date of this was 9 May 1976. All photographs were taken by the donor, Campbell Duncan. This tram was built in 1913 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. When first in use it was number 35. It was sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria and became number 40 in 1951. Ballarat Tramway Museum purchased the tram in 1971. It was the last tram to run when it ran from Sebastopol to the depot on 19 September 1971. The medal was designed by Andor Meszaros and made by K. G. Luke(Medal Makers) of Melbourne, Victoria. This medal was presented to the Shire of Ballarat in 1951 and is now house in the Old Ballarat SHire Building at Learmonth, Victoria.This medal represents the 100 years of "Government in Victoria", also the "Discovery of Gold".A large round bronze medal with a horse bounding left, broken shackles on foreleg, carrying woman holding sword (Justice) and man holding torch (Equality).The front features a man holding a torch and a woman on a horse holding a sword.
