Set of three newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. First clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 2/4/1971 with photo of tram 28 after is collision the previous day with a semi-trailer at the intersection of Princes and Victoria Streets. Gives names of the vehicle drivers and cost of the damage. Photo is of the tram returning to the depot under its own power. Tram passenger named as Margaret Foley, tram driven by James Mason and the truck driven by Gerald Winter of Gordon. See Reg Item 672.1 for a print of the Courier Photograph. Second is from The Courier, Ballarat, 15/4/1971 of the Brown Hill Progress Association chartering a tram to create interest in the project for the retention of Ballarat's trams. The tram was to leave Drummond and Sturt St. intersection the following Sunday at 1245. Item mentions the election of an interim executive and expression of interest of people outside the city. Third is from The Sun, Melbourne, 31/5/1971 about Ballarat 'tram-lovers' deciding to have a working tramway museum. Quotes Mr. Paul Nicholson, a member of the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society. Notes that Museum will have eight trams using two miles of existing track around Lake Wendouree. Green and cream tram with the SEC Logo on the side and the number 13. It is outside the shed of the Ballarat Tram Museum located near Wendouree Lake and the Gardens. Tram 13 is a single truck with drop ends and an open California combination. It was built in 1915 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. In 1928 it was used in Geelong and then transferred to Ballarat in 1936. When the Ballarat tramways closed it was donated to the Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society and returned to Ballarat on loan in 1983. Tram 40 was built in 1913 by Duncan and Fraser for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust was given the number 35. It was sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SEC) and renumbered 40 when it came to Ballarat in 1951. This tram was the last Ballarat tram operated by the SEC to officially carry passengers in Ballarat. This was on 19 September 1971. The tram remained in Ballarat and became part of the Ballarat Tramway Museum fleet. It is classified as operable - used for visitors to travel on at the Museum. Tram 14 was a small green and cream single truck tram operated by one person. Entry was by the narrow door at the driver's end of the tram. People would pay their fare to the driver. There was no conductor. Pink advertisement for the Bendigo Bank was on the side. The tram is photographed outside the Shed at the Ballarat Tramway Museum. Tram body was built in 1915 for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. Sold to the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Ltd. in 1927 and ran in Geelong. Transferred by the State Electricity Commission to Ballarat in 1936. It was the last tram to be overhauled by the SEC. From the first issue of BTM eNews - July 2014: "In February, Melbourne musician Diana May Clark came to the Ballarat Tram Museum to record her song, "Batacuda Bond (Tram Song)". This is a pop style tune with a catchy Brazilian beat. Diana wrote this song while on honeymoon in Brazil. It is about the Santa Teresa tram which runs from downtown Rio de Janeiro and climbs up the Santa Teresa hill offering spectacular views across the city. Opened in 1877 with a horse tram service, the tramway is one of the oldest street railways in the world. The tram is currently out of action after an accident in 2011 which killed five people, including the driver, and injured another 57 people. This was Brazil's worst tram accident. The people of Santa Teresa rely on this tram as their main link to Rio and are rallying for its safe return. With film maker Philip Donnellon, Diana wanted to use an old green W class tram as the setting for the song's film clip. The only green W class trams running in Victoria are those operated by Yarra Trams. They decided that our W4 671 would be suitable, and it certainly provided a great setting. Philip is well known for his interest in trams. He made the documentary movie called "Bring 'Em Back", about Melbourne's tram conductors. He said afterwards that the BTM offered some great filming opportunities, and he would certainly be returning. Over the last 15 years Diana has released five CDs, one EP, and two singles." Ticket dated 21 August 1971, for use on an ARHS / TMSV joint tour to Farewell Ballarat Trams - the first day of the closure of the system. Ticket base is white with three vertical green stripes, which is printed in landscape format. Has been over stamped "Farewell Ballarat Trams" and "Tramway Museum Society of Victoria". From memory, these tickets were bulk printed by the Victorian Railways for the ARHS and the over stamped for use on particular days/events, meals etc. Would have been used as the tram ticket on the day. Ticket used by Graeme Breydon on the day of the tour.
