Straede and Secretary Mr. E. Wilkinson explain their plan to council. Mr Wilkinson, a geologist with the Mines Department , who formerly worked at the National Museum in Melbourne believes Bendigo would readily support such a museum providing a building was supplied by council for the venture to go ahead. Cr A.E. Galvin asked if the Bendigo Museum Society had any particular building in mind and an expression of interest in the Temperance Hall was raised. Cr. J.C.M. Clifford Clohesy served on the Committee Bendigo RSL 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1996, he was President the years 1993 to 1996. Cliff was a hard worker in the two RSL Appeals each year. One of his achievements was the building of 22 Single person units in Kangaroo Flat finished in 1997. Alan William Holmes served on the Committee 1993 to 2001. He was President the years 1997 to 2001. Two of the later years was the change over from Bendigo RSL to Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Inc. He was the Organizer of events for the "Australia Remembers" 50 years after the end of WW2 in Bendigo. It was Alans proposal to turn the SMI into a Museum in 1997 with the first Museum Sub Committee being formed in May 1997 to continue discussions with Passchendaele Barracks Military Historical Society and the opening in February 1998. Now the Bendigo Military Museum. He stayed heavily involved until 2003. He was the organizer and conducted the Sandakan Memorial Service from 1999 to 2012. From there as much as possible Alan visited veterans in Nursing homes and a Wing of "BUPA" was named "Holmes Wing". Cataloguing and recording of all NDSN memorabilia has begun.Various organizations and individuals have been contacted to support preservation.The importance of NDSN in nursing history is emphasized, highlighting the need for preservation for future generations and researchers. Inventory of equipment is completed; cataloguing is ongoing. All records (student files, correspondence, minute books) should be kept intact and organized. Proper storage and insurance are necessary to prevent deterioration. A suitable display area is needed, with regular updates as per museum standards.
