The Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway, the Siam–Burma Railway, the Thai–Burma Railway and similar names, was a 415-kilometre railway between Ban Pong, Thailand, and Thanbyuzayat, Burma, built by the Empire of Japan in 1943 to support its forces in the Burma campaign of World War II. This railway completed the rail link between Bangkok, Thailand, and Rangoon, Burma. This is a poster advertising the showing of a film on the making of the railway.In all, 9,500 Australian prisoners of war worked on the construction of the Burma-Thailand Railway, which ran from Bampong, Thailand, to Thanbyuzayat, Burma . Building commenced at each end of the railway. Hellfire Pass was a location on the Burma Railway which POWs constructed under instructions from Japanese military.Letter from Kevin Myers who was a member of the team that constructed the memorial at Hellfire Pass in 1989.

Framed collection of railway spikes and clips from the Thai-Burma Railway recovered from Hell Fire Pass in 1987. These items were recovered during a visit to the site by Australian Army World War 2 ex-serviceman John William Toon, service number VX30397. J W Toon (also known as Bill Toon) served with the 8th Division and was a prisoner of war.

Is of Historical significance. This map was put together by T.R.Beaton on the 15th February 2002. He used old railway and road maps to show the route and it took him over 15 months to put together. Charles Bover and Jim Sutherland were Japanese POWs on the Burma Railway. Charles was with Weary Dunlop. Jim also spent time at Changi.
