The first in 1936 and second in 1948, when he was invited to attend the Centenary of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Melbourne. It was not long after the first trip to Australia, and tours of Canada, the USA and Europe that Sydney MacEwan decided to become a priest, and renounced tempting radio and concert contracts. During the war he was an officiating Chaplin to the RAF Father MacEwan's normal duties as a parish priest . . . John Douglas Todd Tasmanian born in Tasmaniabut lived most of his life in Sydney. As associate artist with father MacEwan, John Douglas Todd, Sydney pianist, is making his sixth tour for the ABC and his second tour with Father MacEwan. He previously toured for the ABC with violinist Jeanne Gautier and singers William Warfield, Lord Lurgan and John Dudley. . . Programme Notes. Altar frontal made in 1960s for St Thomas Aquinas church Clunes using 19th century motif was accessioned to the Ballarat Diocesan Historical Commission of the Catholic Diocese upon the closure of the church at Clunes in 2017.Altar frontal with appliqued orphery in cloth-of-gold.

Rev. Dr Delaney advocated for the formation of the Ballarat CYMS. Curtin and Scullin being members and learning their debating skills there. The Diocese of Ballarat advocated the development of the Young Christian Workers', YCW, over the CYMS from the 1940's onward as there was a stronger spiritual development base. While there are earlier examples, this is one example of a parish based youth magazine from the organisation in the diocese of Ballarat. Prominent in this YCW group was former Victorian politician Frank Sheehan and local Shire President John Parkin. Bungaree parish had very active parish youth organisations with published journals dating back to the 1930s. Initiallyl producing CYMS magazines at a parish level this had transferred to the YCW by the 1950s and this was the first YCW issue.The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society, CYMS was established in1892 and catered for Catholic youth. ycw, bungaree parish, youth group, curtin, scullin, sheehan, parkin.

The Ballarat Catholic Young Men's Society was established on 01 August 1892. The society provided sporting and debating for young men and later prime ministers Curtin and Scullin were members of the organisation, and it is where they learnt to debate. This image of the 1937 local football premiers is evidence of the sporting prowess of the members. The organisation ceased in the Ballarat Diocese in the 1940s.
