The bronze medal commemorates the centenary of the government of Victoria from 1851 to 1951, as well as the centenary of the discovery of gold and was presented to the Shire of Wodonga in 1951. It was commissioned by the Victorian Government in 1951 to commemorate 100 years of the separation of Victoria from the colony of New South Wales in 1851. The medal was designed by the sculptor Andor Mészáros (1900-1972) and minted by K.G. Luke in Melbourne. The bronze medal has local, state and national significance, as it commemorates the centenary of 100 years of government in Vctoria. It also has aesthetic and social significance as an example of a limited edition bronze medal designed by the prominent sculptor Andor Mészáros, who is known for his work depicting the history, culture and sporting life of Australia.Bronze medal commemorating the centenary of the government of the State of Victoria from 1851 to 1951, and the centenary of the discovery of gold. The Centenary of Warrnambool in 1947 drew crowds of 20000. It was generally felt that the celebrations excelled anything that had been seen in the city in the last 100 years. There were numerous activities held over the weekend including an elaborate street parade which was followed by joining the 4500 children at sports and picnic celebrations at the showgrounds. The Warrnambool and District Turf club also held a race meeting to aid the Hospital and raised 740 pounds. It was estimated that 20000 attended the finale bonfire and fireworks in Albert Park. This is a hand made item to commemorate the occasion. The first local government authority for Marong was the Marong Road District (an early form of single-purpose local government), which was proclaimed on 19 August 1860. Its boundary was altered twice in 1862 and on 12 December 1864 it was re designated as a Shire. It absorbed Raywood Borough in 1915, and was proclaimed a Rural City in 1990. On 2 December 1994, with the creation of Greater Bendigo City Council, it was abolished through the amalgamation which took place between Bendigo City, Eaglehawk Borough, Huntly Shire, part of McIvor Shire, part of Metcalfe Shire and Strathfieldsaye Shire to form the City of Greater Bendigo. The local photograph shows the original footbridge across the Merri River near its mouth, the Viaduct road and the Warrnambool Breakwater with the Titan crane on it. The breakwater's construction was completed in 1890, the year this photograph was taken. The Viaduct has since been filled in to prevent water passing through the pylons, and the footbridge has been replaced. The photograph was presented to Flagstaff Hill on the centenary of South Warrnambool Primary School, 1877 to 1977, by the school's Warrnambool South Primary School Centenary Committee. The centenary was celebrated during August 12-13-14. The school was decommissioned in the 1990s.The photograph is locally significant for recording the completion of the Warrnambool Breakwater, for showing the original design of the Viaduct and for a clear view of the original footbridge across the Merri River. The 100th anniversary of the proclamation and declaration of the "Caulfield Road District" was held on 15 October 1957. A variety of public events were organised to celebrate this memorable occasion between 13 October and 8 November 1957. This crochet chart was designed by the twentieth century crochet pattern designer, Mary Card, for the Victorian Centenary in 1934. It was published in the Australian Home Beautiful magazine on November 1934. The chart was published in four sections, with instructions for working it as a complete piece. The North Warrnambool Rifle Club was operating in Warrnambool in the 1930s. It had 132 members in 1935. A noted member was the well-known local photographer, Arthur Jordan whose father, Joseph, was a crack rifle shot and was a member of the Warrnambool Rifle Club. The Barber Centenary Cup was presumably established to commemorate the Centenary of Victoria as the cup competitions commenced in 1934 and were completed in 1935. The competitions were usually held over distances of 300, 500 and 600 yards. It is not known which member of the several Barber families in Warrnambool at the time donated the cup but G. Barber was a member of the Rifle Club in 1934-5 and winner of the Gray Centenary Cup. W. D. McDonald, the winner of the trophy, was the Captain of the C lub in 1935.This item is significant as it is connected with early 20th century Warrnambool sport (rifle shooting). It shows what sort of award was given for competition winners and reveals the popularity of rifle shooting in Warrnambool in earlier decades, with two clubs existing at that timeThis is a sports trophy cup made of electro-plated nickel silver (now very tarnished).
