These Christmas cards are part of an album of postcards which date from late 19th century to mid 20th century. These cards are the only cards in the collection and may be circa 1950s. They depict representations of the Madonna and Child by Italian Rennaissance artists. These cards are inside their original envelopes and were never used but may have been kept for religious, sentimental or aesthetic reasons.These Christmas cards are the only cards in an album of postcards dating from the late 19th century to mid 20th century. It reflects the popularity of collecting postcards in Australia which reached a height in the early 1900s until around 1920. Photocopy of artefacts relating to WWI nurse Blodwyn Williams, sent to the Returned Nurses by her great neice Marjorie Drohan [?]. Article about honour board is controvertial due to it's location at All Saint's Church, Kooyong not being prestigious enough. It has since been moved to St Paul's Cathedral Melbourne. The artefacts copied on this sheet are two Christmas cards from Blodwyn Williams' service in WWI. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Selection of Christmas cards that are available with inscription printed inside. A Sands Cards Company product, of the works of Currier & Ives. On the front of the grey box are the words 'Currier & Ives Authentic Prints for Christmas. 16 cards with envelopes.' The cards are all pasted on to yellow card. The envelopes are missing. Btn from 12.1.1942 to 1.2.1944, transfer to "Z" Special unit and serves in N.E.I and Borneo from 29.3.1945 - 17.12.1945, discharged from the AIF on 23.6.1946. Ron is Ronald Ormand Webb enlisted in the CMF No V26051 in the 26th M.G. Btn, discharged from the CMF on 28.6.1942 and joins the AIF No VX89115 on 29.6.1942. Served in Darwin with 19th M.G. Btn from 3.2.1942 - 23.3.1944, transfers to "Z" Special Unit and serves in Morotai and Borneo from 27.3.1945 to 17.12.1945, discharged from the AIF on 30.1.1946. Mervyn is Mervyn Herbert Webb, enlists in the CMF No V26035 on 7.11.1941 in 26th M.G. Btn, discharged from the CMF on 28.6.1942 and joins the AIF No VX134519, serves in Darwin with 19th M.G. Btn from 12.1.1942 - 24.5.1944, serves on Morotai with 16th Aust Inf Btn from 15.6.1945 - 25.12.1945, discharged from the Army on 9.1.1946. Due to illness Mervyn would most likely have gone with his brothers into "Z" Special Unit. Items in the collection re W.P. Fawcett, refer Cat No 9627. The brothers were related to Fawcett. White cream colour cards folded across to make two sheets. On cover at top is a triangle coloured red and blue. At bottom is a picture of a small hut next to a couple of palm trees (in army green) and in the middle is the unit identification "19th Australian M.G. Battalion", inside on page 3 is "Xmas 1942". Embroidered silk postcards gained popularity during and after World War I, particularly in France. These cards were often hand-embroidered on strips of silk mesh, and then mounted on postcards. A cottage industry arose around 1915 to meet the demand, with women working in their homes to produce the embroidery. Many postcards were sent by British troops serving in France and Belgium.10 beautiful hand embroidered silk postcards from WW1 sent home to loved ones. They are mounted on white embossed card with handwritten messages on the back. In the second picture there are two Christmas cards with plastic pictures glued onto the front and handwritten messages inside. Both are tied with coloured cotton thread on the left front folds.'So far and yet so near' is printed on one of the folded cards. 'To wish You a Happy Christmas' is printed inside the other folded card.
