The original, very large framed photograph of the ceremony of Unveiling of the Kew War Memorial, by His Excellency the Governor, Earl of Stradbroke KCMG, Sunday 30 August 1925. At the ceremony there were over five thousand in attendance crowding the intersection of High Street and Cotham Road. The voices of the Governor and the Mayor, Councillor Jabez Carnegie were amplified from four loud speakers on the dome of the memorial. A guard of honour from the 39th Battalion C.M.F. was present, together with the First Kew Troop of Boy Scouts. Restoration of the work by staff at the Grimwade Centre has been made possible by a contribution from Andrew McIntosh M.L.A.Iconic Australian photograph from the post-WW1 period. The Kew Historical Society's Pictures Collection is comprised of photographs and original works of art. The photographs include original (mainly) images dating from the 1870s to the present. A number of these photographs derive from the former City of Kew's Civic Collection while others are the work of amateur and professional photographers. Most of the images in the collection depict people, places and objects within the suburbs of Kew and Kew East. Other photographs depict other locations in Melbourne and Victoria. Copy of artist's map of the Shire of Eltham with numerous historical and cultural places of interest illustrated and notated including evidence of original Wurundjeri occupation and local flora and fauna. The original watercolour is held in the Nillumbik Shire Council Civic Collection. "Evans remembers being surprised they had asked an artist to create this map rather than a designer. Originally made as a watercolour, the map was later made into posters and adorned many homes around the area.
