The Emerald Country Club was originally set up as a country retreat for the wealthy in the late 1920s. It was modelled on American country clubs and it was situated on land formerly owned by the Gembrook Nurseries. It offered accommodation and dining, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, a bowling green as well as swimming and fishing facilities. Unsigned letter from a trustee of the club house and sports ground regarding possible resignation as a trustee due to health reasons, and the advice he received upon the Trust's continuity. The Trust was registered under the Successory Trust Act and would continue despite change of individual trustees. Mr Paterson's right to appoint his replacement is touched upon, as is the limited role that the trustees play. The old club house is in the background, now replaced by modern club rooms at the club, which still operates today. The club was formed in 1872 and the old club house was replaced in the 1950s with a larger complex of facilities. This was in turn replaced by another new building in 2011. The Sunshine Lions Club built the Elderly Citizens Centre Watt Street corner of Corio Street, Sunshine. The building works started in 1958 and the Lions District Governor Bill Burge Phillips laid the foundation stone and time capsule on the 12th February 1958. The building was opened by Victoria's Minister for Health, Ewen Paul Cameron MLC on the 4th March 1959. This building which served the Elderly community of Sunshine and its district for nearly 50 years. The building was subsequently sold to a church group and in 2026 the building was demolished due to the state of disrepair of the structure.
