Major-General John K Forsyth CMG raised 1st Light Horse Brigade. The men of the 4th Light Horse Regiment regarded him as their first CO, although technically he was not, and always referred to him as 'Dad". Date unknown but the men beside him are L/ John Stevenson and L/ Tony Norris who were president in 1993 and 1990 respectively. Major General C H Brand was born in Ipswich Qld on the 4 September 1873. he fought in both the South African war and WW1. He commanded the 3rd Battalion at Gallipoli and the 6th Brigade in 1915-16 and the 4th Brigade in 1916-18 in France. he retired after 37 years of Service and was elected a senator for the United Party in 1935, stepping down in 1947. Colonel Sir Alfred Kemsley's reply to the opening speech delivered by Lieutenant General Sir Phillip Bennett KBE, AO, DSO when he unveiled the Memorial Plaque and opened the Donovan Joynt VC Club at Puckapunyal on 23 March 1983. Sir Alfred talks about his long friendship with Donovan Joynt, beginning with the battle in France in which Joynt won his VC, and acknowledging the difficulty he had in persuading Joynt to be memorialised by this project at Puckapunyal. He also cited Joynt's involvement with Legacy, which as a foundation member and an early Melbourne Legacy President himself Kemsley would have been aware. Together with his friend Donovan Joynt, Kemsley became one of the most committed advocates for the creation of a Shrine of Remembrance on St Kilda Road as a 'worthy' memorial to Victoria’s 'unparalleled efforts during the Great War'. He played an active role in the defeat of a counter-proposal for an Anzac Square in Spring Street. GEORGE VICTOR LANSELL is the longest serving President of the Bendigo RSL 1925 - 1952 and then 1954 - 57. He was awarded Life Membership and Life Membership with Gold Badge in 1956. This photo was originally hanging in the Billiard Room SMI. It was moved to the Foyer post 2000 to be with a plaque Cat No 8013. After the renovations to SMI 2016 -18 it was then placed in what is now called the "Building and RSL History Room". This is not the original photo that was placed in 1926. George Victor Lansell had prior service in the 67th Militia BN before WW1. He enlisted in the AIF with A Coy 38th Bn on 1.5.1916 age 32 years 7 months. He was appointed Coy Commander of A Coy. Embark for England 20.6.1916, hospital 19.8.1916 with Influenza, rejoin unit 25.8.1916, embark for France 22.11.1916, WIA 1.12.1916 grazed by a bullet to right forehead, suffering from concussion and other complications he was returned to Australia on 12.5.1917 and discharged from the AIF on 11.8.1917. Churchill Island was discovered by Lieut. James Grant in 1801 and he planted the first wheat crop in Victoria there. The Cairn was erected to commemmorate this by the Victorian Farmer's Union. This goblet was gifted to the Faculty by Professor John Norman (UK) during the Combined Scientific Meeting (CSM) organized by Hong Kong College of Anesthesiologists (HKCA) with ANZCA, held in May 2001, Hong Kong. The goblet is a unique design by the Australian - born artist Stuart Devlin AO, CMG. Devlin is considered to be a significant contemporary gold and silversmith, having become well known as a London Designer in the '70s and '80s.
