It appears to be signed by Nicholas Madden.Blue covered booklets (4 copies) with 16 buff coloured pages printed with the history of the Madden Family, the Coach and Horses Hotel and local areas. Plus an article reprinted from 'The Age' 26 August 1933 - 'Melbourne's Historic Homes'. Refer also to Reg no. 3634 catalogued book 'Ringwood - Short Notes on its Development 1857 - 1963.' Compiled by Mrs M. Burnside with the co-operation of the Ringwood Historical Research Group. Black and white photograph of Coach and Horses Hotel in Maroondah Highway, west of New Street, now adjacent to Eastlink Freeway, on northern side. There are two duplicate photos. Certainly the photo was taken post-1940 as the previous Coach & Horses Hotel, on the south side, burnt down in 1940. The telephone pole indicates that era, with limited lines. The style of the building was Art Deco that generally existed in the 1920s-1930s but did continued in Australia in the 1940s. The building has the appearance of being newly-built. Was H4, in the old cataloguing system.

The collection of thirteen model horse drawn vehicles were carefully handmade by Mr Chas W Davis 1925 - 2002. He was a talented artist and saw doctor. This model of a three horse drawn enclosed coach replicates the vehicle that enjoyed respect from the public during the 1880's. There were four horse drawn models as well.A model of a black enclosed coach which is a four wheeled passenger horse drawn vehicle where the driver sits at the front behind the three brown horses. It has two large and two smaller gold painted spoked wheels with black rims, two gold painted coach lamps, black padded seating and four open windows with blinds that are rolled up. There are two doors with a step for easy access into the coach. A long brown wooden shaft separates the horses which also have black vinyl shaft style straps on both sides as well as the necessary horse tack for carriage use to help the driver communicate with the horses. A hand operated brake is next to the driver with the brake pads attached to the back wheels. There is a brown wooden slotted luggage rack at the back held on by two gold chains. Vehicles pulled by a pair have a pole which attaches between the wheel pair. This draw bar belonged to a wagon or coach pulled by two horses. It would have been used in the Orbost district before modern transport.This item is an example of transport in Orbost before more moderrn road transport. From the 1880s to c. 1920, much of the Orbost district was linked by coaching routes. These photos show two different locations: one photo shows a coach crossing a sand bar. This is most likely the crossing of the Lake Tyers sand bar to Lakes Entrance. The other photo shows a coach passing a barn in a rural setting. Both photos c. 1880s-1920. These photos are significant because they show horses and coaches which were an important transport method prior to the linking of settlements within East Gippsland by roads, cars, and railway.
