The British Empire Exhibition at Wembley Park ran for two years from 1924 to 1925. It was designed to strengthen the bonds of Empire, stimulate trade and demonstrate British achievements in industry and commerce. Caskets were presented to Robert Baden-Powell from groups around the world in recognition of his services to the Empire following his successful holding of the besieged town of Mafeking during the South African Boer War.
