The old Court House was the Doctor's office for some years after it was closed as a court house, and is now a private residence. A civic campaign for new public offices developed in Kew in the 1880s. After much deliberation, the location chosen was the junction of Bulleen and Cotham Roads. The buildings were designed by George Watson and John Henry Harvey, architects within the Department of Public Works (Victoria). Building was commenced in 1887, and after one year, the buildings were opened. The Post Office was transferred to the new Commonwealth Government in 1901. The Police Station and Court House, sold by the Victorian Government to the City of Boroondara in 2007, are now a community cultural centre and performing arts venue.The buildings were listed on the Victorian Heritage Register Register (HO885) in 1991. They are historically and architecturally significant to the State of Victoria because Watson and Harvey's designs exhibit diversity in integrating civil offices, they accommodate the apex of road junctions, and they demonstrate a departure from the contemporaneously favoured High Victorian Classical to the Queen Anne style in the design of civic buildings.Small collection of miniature terracotta bricks created to sell in order to raise funds for the 'Save the Kew Court House' campaign. Dione McIntyre who led the campaign conceived and made the bricks. The oblong bricks were pierced and pieces of green ribbon were threaded through each hole. The Ballarat School of Mines opened in the former Ballarat Circuit Court House in 1870. The court house was demolished in 1915 to make way for the Ballarat Technical Art School. The Ballarat School of Mines is a predeccessor of Federation University Australia..1) Handwritten agreement on blue paper with green thread. The Melton Court House constructed in 1892 and operated for nearly 100 years. It is one of only two early buildings remaining in Melton's main shopping street, and the only nineteenth century building in the street. E.Ashton joined the Victorian Police force in 1896;appointed a horse mounted constable in his first year of service and had a distinguished career that included arresting criminal "Squizzy Taylor in 1919 in Bourke Street, Melbourne. Ernest finished as Superintendent of Sale Police Station. His career is detailed in the Wycheproof family history section of our archive. The Wycheproof Court House Opened 24-9-1890.The Law Department Closed the Court House during the 1980s. The building became the home of the Wycheproof Craft Group and then the Wycheproof And District Historical Society. Financial support from Heritage Victoria enabled interior renovations to be completed in 2007.This is the only known photo of the Opening of the Wycheproof Court House.
